President Schulz to join President Barroso in Dublin next week for key meetings with Irish Presidency

25-2-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — The Irish Presidency has this week intensified discussions on the future seven-year budget, the Multi-annual Financial Framework (MFF). The Irish Presidency is aiming to reach agreement with the European Parliament on this future financial framework during our six month Presidency.

Next Thursday (28 February), European Commission President Barroso and European Parliament President Schulz will both travel to Dublin, during which time they will have meetings with the Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the Irish Presidency to discuss the MFF.

The Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore will tomorrow (25 February) meet with the Chair of the Parliament’s Budget Committee, Mr Alain Lamassoure, in Dublin. The Tánaiste will lead discussions among member states on the MFF as Chair of the General Affairs Council.

The Minister of State for European Affairs Lucinda Creighton has this week initiated MFF consultations with Klaus-Heiner Lehne MEP, who represents all European Parliament Chairpersons.

There will be further high-level contacts between the Presidency and Parliament in the coming weeks.
