Inmarsat signs Global Xpress (GX) partnership contract to boost Turksat’s existing regional Ka-band capacity

New contract deepens relationship and boosts Turksat’s existing regional Ka-band capacity

LONDON, 15-Mar-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — Global satellite communications provider Inmarsat is set to strengthen its relationship with Turksat by signing a Global Xpress (GX) partnership contract to boost the Turkish satellite operator’s existing regional Ka-band capacity.

The agreement will be officially signed at a ceremony at the Satellite 2018 event in Washington DC on Wednesday March 14, ahead of a reception that evening at the Turkish embassy in the American capital.

Following the announcement, Turksat will be able to offer Inmarsat’s global mobile broadband services to its customers in the EMEA, Caucasus and Central Asia regions, in addition to augmenting its own capacity.

Inmarsat and Turksat will initially focus on offering GX services to their government, military security and aviation customers, as well as members of the public.

The GX partnership follows a Memorandum of Understanding agreed between the two companies at the end of 2015 and an L-band contract agreed in March 2016.

Andy Start, President of Global Government at Inmarsat, said: “This is the next step in an increasingly successful two-way partnership between Inmarsat and Turksat. Turkey’s large land mass, coastline and strategic position between two continents has been the perfect environment for Turksat to establish a strong regional capability.”

Peter Hadinger, Chief Technology Officer at Inmarsat, said: “Both companies are excited to be working collaboratively to develop future services and solidify market growth. Our partnership has already allowed Turksat to extend its offering to include our L-band mobility services and, with this new agreement, to also offer our high speed Ka-band mobility services.”

Cenk Sen, CEO of Turksat, said: “This contract represents the latest chapter of our story with Inmarsat and benefits not just both companies involved, but all our Turkish and regional customers who can depend on an even more reliable connection and an enhanced range of mobile satellite communications services.”
