(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 6-Jun-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) has officially launched its latest innovation, the 600 V CoolMOS™ 8 high voltage superjunction (SJ) MOSFET product family. These cutting-edge devices represent a significant advancement, amalgamating the finest attributes of the esteemed 600 V CoolMOS 7 MOSFET series. They stand as the successors to the renowned P7, PFD7, C7, CFD7, G7, and S7 product families, underscoring Infineon’s commitment to pioneering solutions within the semiconductor industry.

The advent of the new superjunction MOSFETs heralds a new era of cost-effective Si-based solutions, augmenting Infineon’s comprehensive portfolio in the realm of wide-bandgap offerings. Equipped with an integrated fast body diode, these devices are poised to revolutionize a plethora of applications, spanning from server and industrial switched-mode power supply units (SMPS) to EV chargers and micro-solar technologies.

In a bid to streamline designs and curtail assembly costs, the components are conveniently available in SMD QDPAK, TOLL, and ThinTOLL 8 x 8 packages. Noteworthy performance enhancements include an 18 percent reduction in gate charge (Qg) at 10 V compared to the CFD7, and a remarkable 33 percent decrease in comparison to the P7. Moreover, at 400 V, the product family boasts a 50 percent reduction in output capacitance (COSS) compared to its predecessors, the CFD7 and the P7.

Additional improvements manifest in the realm of turn-off losses (Eoss), which have been slashed by 12 percent vis-à-vis the CFD7 and the P7. Moreover, the reverse recovery charge (Qrr) is marked by a 3 percent decrease compared to the CFD7. Notably, these devices exhibit the lowest reverse recovery time (trr) on the market, coupled with a substantial enhancement in thermal performance ranging from 14 to 42 percent when juxtaposed against the previous generation.

The newfound efficiency and reliability of these devices render them ideal candidates for soft-switching topologies such as LLC and ZVS phase-shift full-bridge, alongside excellent performance in PFC, TTF, and other hard-switching topologies. With an optimized RDS(on), these devices unlock higher power density, thereby facilitating a reduction in Si-based superjunction (SJ) technology products to a single-digit value of 7 mΩ.

Infineon will be showcasing the 600 V CoolMOS 8 SJ MOSFETs at the Infineon booth (Hall 7 / Booth 470) during PCIM 2024 in Nuremberg.
