Infineon Introduces PSOC Control C3 Microcontrollers for Advanced Motor Control and Power Conversion Applications

(IN BRIEF) Infineon Technologies has launched the PSOC Control C3 family of high-performance microcontrollers designed for motor control and power conversion systems. With enhanced capabilities such as real-time control, powerful Arm Cortex-M33 cores, and robust safety features, the PSOC Control MCUs cater to applications in various industries, from robotics to energy management. Supported by Infineon’s ModusToolbox, these MCUs provide a seamless ecosystem for system design, with live demonstrations scheduled at Embedded World 2025.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 21-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) has introduced the PSOC™ Control C3, its latest family of high-performance microcontrollers based on the Arm® Cortex®-M33 core. Designed to streamline the development of motor control and power conversion systems, these microcontrollers are backed by the comprehensive ModusToolbox™ suite of system design tools and software. The new PSOC Control family is tailored to meet the needs of a range of demanding applications, from home appliances and industrial drives to light electric vehicles (LEVs) and HVAC systems.

The PSOC Control C3 family includes both Entry and Main Line products, offering a scalable and flexible range of performance, features, and memory configurations. In addition, specialized variants for motor control (C3M) and power conversion (C3P) applications provide targeted solutions for industries such as robotics, solar energy, and industrial automation.

Steve Tateosian, Senior Vice President for Industrial & IoT MCUs at Infineon, commented, “As next-generation industrial motors and power conversion applications adopt wide bandgap (WBG) power devices to enhance efficiency, there’s a growing demand for faster control loops. Our PSOC Control family addresses this challenge by providing best-in-class solutions and design environments to maximize the potential of both analogue and digital technologies.”

High-Performance and Low-Latency Control

The new PSOC Control C3 microcontrollers offer real-time control capabilities, enabling systems to respond swiftly to events with minimal delay and optimized resource usage. Powered by Arm® Cortex®-M33 cores, these MCUs operate at up to 180 MHz and are complemented by a Digital Signal Processor (DSP), a Floating-Point Unit (FPU), and a Coordinate Rotation Digital Computer (CORDIC) hardware accelerator, which speeds up control loop calculations. A wide array of peripherals, on-chip memory, and various interfaces enhance the MCUs’ versatility.

The Entry Line models (C3P2 and C3M2) feature high-precision A/D converters and timers, while the Main Line models (C3P5 and C3M5) offer high-resolution PWM capabilities, enabling high-performance systems to respond rapidly to real-time events. These advanced features are critical for power and motor control loops, with Main Line MCUs supporting higher switching frequencies and WBG switches for next-generation power systems.

Robust Safety and Security Features

Infineon’s PSOC Control C3 MCUs are built with a focus on safety and security. They feature Class B and SIL 2 safety libraries and PSA Certified™ Level 2 / EPC2 security, ensuring robust protection for mission-critical applications. The MCUs also include advanced features like a crypto accelerator, TrustZone, and secure key storage, enabling intellectual property (IP) protection and secure firmware updates.

Comprehensive Ecosystem Support

The PSOC Control family is supported by Infineon’s ModusToolbox™, a unified platform that integrates both hardware and software solutions. ModusToolbox provides dedicated tools such as Motor Suite and Power Suite, which are specifically designed for PSOC Control applications. These suites offer a user-friendly graphical interface to simplify evaluation and training, while providing real-time performance insights for optimizing system efficiency and reliability. With these specialized environments, engineers can easily identify and resolve issues, enhancing overall system performance.

Demonstration at Embedded World 2025

Infineon will showcase the new PSOC Control C3 microcontrollers at Embedded World 2025 in Nuremberg. Attendees can visit the Infineon booth (Hall 4A, Booth #138) to experience live demonstrations and learn more about the latest advancements in motor control and power conversion technologies.

Availability and Future Expansion

The PSOC Control C3 family, including both Entry and Main Line variants, is available now, with 34 devices in total. Infineon is also working on a Performance Line, which will be available for sampling later this year. Additional information, samples, and evaluation kits can be requested at www.infineon.com/psoccontrol.

An online briefing for journalists regarding the launch of the PSOC Control will take place on January 23, 2025. Interested participants can register [here].
