Improvisation genius Ross Noble to return to UKTV’s Dave channel for second series of Ross Noble Freewheeling

LONDON, 18-4-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Improvisation genius Ross Noble will return to UKTV’s Dave channel for a second series of Ross Noble Freewheeling (6×60’), a show driven by Ross’ loyal Twitter following and where literally anything can happen.

The second series of Ross Noble Freewheeling, produced by North One Television and Stunt Baby Productions, will put Ross’ fate completely in the hands of the public. The first series saw him gate-crash Eddie Izzard’s stand up gig, host a ceramic dog show, MC a wedding, edit the Swindon Advertiser for the day and initiate a custard fight with Bob Mortimer. Series two will see Ross once again hand himself over to the complete mercy of their Twitter suggestions. He will be joined by some of his comedy mates and the best names in British comedy.

Ross Noble commented,

Freewheeling is the most exciting and fun way to make a show, it’s great that Dave are into making telly this way. I would love to tell you what to expect for the second series but until the tweets start coming in I have no idea.

The series was ordered by UKTV’s Director of Commissioning, Richard Watsham and Commissioning Editor Iain Coyle. North One’s John Quinn and James Woodroffe will continue to executive produce the series. The first series proved a hit with the Dave audience when it averaged 339k, with its best episode achieving 491k views, peaking in the hour with 620k.

Iain Coyle, Commissioning Editor for UKTV, added,

I am thrilled we’re doing a second series of Freewheeling, Ross is simply a genius at improvisation and, with the help of a crack team at North One, he’s created a unique and hilarious format. It’s a brave commission by UKTV because, like last series, we’ve literally no idea where the show is going to take us; it’s all in the hands of Twitter and Ross Noble’s brain.

Steve North, general manager for Dave, said,

We are delighted to have Ross back on the channel for the second series. The madcap experiences and utter spontaneity of the first series proved that a show can be driven by social media and Ross really was at the hands of the Great British public.

John Quinn, Executive Producer of North One, commented

Ross really can weave comedy out of any situation – but it was still initially terrifying going into such a genuinely unplanned and improvised journey, led purely by social media. This time around we’ll know it works from the outset – and with vast tracts of the UK still to visit, we’re confident of an even bigger and better series two.

James Woodroffe added,

Try as we might, it was impossible to get Ross to conform in the last series and make a conventional television programme. I promise viewers we’ll all be upping our game and endeavouring to make him concentrate this time. Wish us luck.

Ross Noble Freewheeling will air exclusively on Dave later this year, and joins the slate of successful second series commissions of Crackanory and Dave Gorman Modern Life is Goodish. Dave’s adult viewing share grew by 20% in 2013 and is now the most watched non-PSB channel in the UK, reaching over 27 million adults every month.
