Iberdrola with certificate for effective criminal compliance management system

BILBAO, Spain, 27-Oct-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — AENOR has awarded Iberdrola the certificate for the UNE 19601 standard, which verifies that the company has an effective criminal compliance management system. Iberdrola, thus, becomes one of the first Ibex 35-listed companies to receive this certificate, within the framework of its commitment to transparency and good corporate governance.

This standard is the national standard for best practices to prevent crime, reduce risk, and promote an ethical business culture and compliance with the law.

This recently-obtained certificate joins the certification Iberdrola was awarded in May, also from AENOR, under UNE-ISO ETA2671 for its anti-corruption management systems. The group then became the first on the Ibex 35, and one of the first i the world, to achieve this recognition.

Iberdrola continues to move forward with its commitment to international best practices in relation to compliance, thereby reflecting its values in the areas of ethical principles, transparency and good corporate governance.

Among the group’s corporate governance and regulatory compliance policies are the Crime Prevention Policy and the Anti-Corruption and Anti-Fraud Policy, which were approved by the company’s Board of Directors in December 2010 and 2016, respectively.

The first of these is intended to convey a strong message against the commission of any criminal act to all of Iberdrola’s directors and employees, as well as to third parties related to the company. It also shows the company’s willingness to fight criminality and prevent any deterioration in its image and reputation.

The second likewise seeks to convey Iberdrola’s strong opposition to corruption and fraud in all its manifestations, and its willingness to eliminate them in all its activities.

This commitment to transparency and best practices has resulted in Iberdrola being chosen as one of the most ethical companies in the world by the Ethisphere Institute, a leading institution in defining standards for good business practice.

Its 2017 World´s Most Ethical Companies ranking recognised those companies that play a role in society to encourage positive change in the global business community.
