(PRESS RELEASE) BILBAO, 20-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Iberdrola has received two major international awards recognising its leadership in sustainable finance and its role in advancing the electrification and decarbonisation of the economy.

The company has been named the leading corporate issuer of green, social and sustainable bonds at the 2026 GlobalCapital Bond Awards and has also been recognised as Europe’s most sustainable electricity company at the 2026 World Finance Sustainability Awards.

The two accolades underline Iberdrola’s strategy of expanding renewable energy generation, investing in electricity networks and storage solutions, and mobilising capital for projects with a positive environmental impact.

The GlobalCapital Bond Awards, now in their nineteenth year, are dedicated exclusively to international bond markets. They recognise excellence across issuers, financial institutions, investors, rating agencies and advisers.

A distinctive feature of the awards is that winners are selected by market participants through a broad sector-wide consultation, giving the recognition particular relevance within the sustainable finance market.

The award reinforces Iberdrola’s position as one of the leading international issuers in sustainable finance.

In 2025, Iberdrola became the first Spanish company to issue a bond under the new European Green Bond Standard. It also became the first company globally to obtain dual certification by complying both with the European Green Bond Standard and the Green Bond Principles of the International Capital Market Association.

Since then, the company has issued four green bonds aligned with both frameworks, further strengthening its role in the sustainable finance market.

Iberdrola has also been recognised by the World Finance Sustainability Awards, which highlight organisations leading the transition toward low-carbon and resource-efficient business models while contributing to social value creation.

The judging panel recognised Iberdrola for turning its climate ambition into large-scale operational progress across multiple markets.

In particular, the jury highlighted the company’s expansion of renewable generation capacity, the modernisation and digitalisation of electricity networks, the development of storage solutions and system integration, and its contribution to economic growth and employment in the regions where it operates.

The jury also pointed to the strength of Iberdrola’s climate strategy. This includes the company’s goal of achieving direct emissions neutrality in electricity generation by 2030 and its target of reaching net-zero direct and indirect emissions by 2040.

The recognition also reflects Iberdrola’s investments in clean technologies, including onshore and offshore wind, solar, hydroelectric power and energy storage.

In addition, the company was recognised for its role in developing smart grids that enable greater integration of renewable generation and support a more flexible, resilient and secure electricity system.

Iberdrola said the awards further validate its position as a global reference in green finance and as one of the leading electricity companies driving the transition to a more sustainable energy model.
