Hydro: Contemporary, Greener building for Ticon

(PRESS RELEASE) OSLO, 20-Jan-2020 — /EuropaWire/ — MODERN TICON BUILDING – The historic Ticon Building in Drammen, Norway has undergone modernization integrating Hydro’s low-carbon recycled CIRCAL aluminum but retaining its original architectural design.

The Ticon Building, built in 1963, has been a source of pride for Ticon Eindom, owner of the building. But it became difficult for Eindom when the building would undergo modernization since the architectural design of the building is listed as historically protected by the local building authorities.

“We were told this project was impossible, and there is no denying it has been challenging,” says Vegard Foseid, project manager from Ticon. “To solve it, we established a project group that deeply involved the architects, the entrepreneur, and our suppliers, among them Hydro.”

Hydro, through its building systems brand WICONA, have transformed the Ticon Building into energy-neutral, super-sustainable building packed with high-tech and Hydro CIRCAL while keeping its original architectural design. Therefore the heating needs of the building are reduced by 80 percent.

The Hydro CIRCAL is made of minimum 75 percent recycled scrap such as window frames, aluminium packaging and other car parts.

Over a year ago when Hydro launched its greener brands, CIRCAL and Reduxa, through its building system brands WICONA, TECHNAL and SAPA, they have become their highest selling point on selling greener aluminium products.

Recently, the business unit surpassed its milestone by reaching 40 building projects by using CIRCAL facades. That’s more than 2,300 tonnes of greener aluminium, with big and small projects of up to 400 tonnes. In Europe, all of Building Systems’ solutions will be available in either CIRCAL or REDUXA this year.
