Hungarian state owned rail operator MÁV-START orders 21 additional Stadler KISS electrical multiple unit trains

(PRESS RELEASE) BUSSNANG, Switzerland, 8-Jan-2020 — /EuropaWire/ — Stadler announces order for 21 additional KISS electrical multiple unit trains valued at approx. 313 million euros. The contract was signed with Hungarian state owned passenger operator MÁV-START. A framework agreement for a total number of 40 double-deckers was signed by both parties in April 2017, with MÁV-START gaining the right to procure new trains flexibly. MÁV-START has now exercised its right and utilized the total amount of the contract.

In August 2017, the first contract was signed for eleven units. In December 2018, the second order for additional eight trains was concluded. The last contract has now come into force. As per the transaction, the delivery of the 40th unit, which is the last train of the third batch, should be by the end of 2022.

KISS double-deck train consist of six coaches which are 155.88 meter long, 2.8 meter wide and 4.6 meter high. These double-deckers can accommodate 600 passengers which is 50% more passengers compared to a single-decker unit with the same length. Designed according to the latest safety standards, the new trains will be equipped with EVM and ETCS Level 2 train control systems, abling them to run at a top speed of 160 km/h on the modernized railway lines of Hungary.

The exceptionally smooth running trains offers comfortable seats, a state-of-the-art passenger information system, a spacious and bright interior, cutting edge air conditioning, four toilets (one of them accessible for persons with reduced mobility), multifunctional areas (plenty of space for four wheelchairs, as well as twelve bicycles or five strollers) and free WIFI.
