Hubert Burda Media to discontinue its Cover magazine

Munich, Germany, 3-2-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Hubert Burda Media is withdrawing the magazine Cover from the market as of the March issue. After the development of sales recently failed to come up to expectations, the management sees no further prospects for long-term profitability. Burda Style Group Managing Director Manuela Kampp-Wirtz: “All the pleasure of innovation notwithstanding, we are still bound by sound commercial sense.” Her decision follows Burda’s course of journalistic innovation in developing new products on a regular basis. The Burda national publishing division led by Philipp Welte has launched more than 250 media products on the market since 2009, 33 of them being magazines.

Cover was started after a promising market test in 2012, under Editor-in-Chief Michaela Mielke. Manuela Kampp-Wirtz: “Regardless of the requisite rational analysis it is very much to my regret that the passionate, creative and professional work of Editor-in-Chief Michaela Mielke and her team was not sufficiently accepted by the market. I thank everyone involved for their commitment.”

Thirteen jobs are affected by the discontinuation of Cover. The management is looking into every possibility for redeploying the staff within the company.
