Hexagon Expands Geosystems Division with APEI Acquisition to Meet Growing Demand for High-Resolution Aerial Data

(IN BRIEF) Hexagon AB will acquire French aerial-mapping firm APEI—operator of a private survey aircraft fleet across Europe and Africa—to expand its geospatial content capabilities. APEI’s longstanding partnership with Hexagon includes contributions to the Hexagon Content Program and HxDR platform. The transaction, subject to regulatory clearance and expected to complete by end of Q2 2025, brings APEI’s ten-person team into Hexagon’s Geosystems division and is forecast to add approximately EUR 3 million in 2025 revenues at margins comparable to Hexagon’s. This move accelerates Hexagon’s ability to address governmental mapping initiatives in France and broader geospatial needs across Europe and Africa.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 13-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Hexagon AB has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire APEI, a French specialist in aerial mapping, to bolster its geospatial data offerings. APEI operates its own fleet of aircraft dedicated to high-resolution aerial surveys across France, neighbouring European nations, and Africa. As a long-standing collaborator, APEI has integrated Hexagon sensors and processing workflows into its operations and contributed extensively to the Hexagon Content Program—the industry’s most comprehensive repository of aerial imagery and elevation models in the U.S. and Europe—and to HxDR, Hexagon’s cloud-based spatial data platform. This acquisition will strengthen Hexagon’s capacity to meet surging demand for precise, large-scale geospatial content.

“France represents one of the EU’s most dynamic geospatial markets, underpinned by government mandates to keep national mapping current,” said Norbert Hanke, Interim President and CEO of Hexagon. “Bringing APEI into our Geosystems division deepens our local expertise and positions us to participate in additional governmental and infrastructure programs throughout Europe and Africa.”

APEI’s team of approximately ten employees will integrate into Hexagon’s Geosystems business unit. The acquired entity is projected to generate revenue of around EUR 3 million in 2025, with operating margins in line with Hexagon’s corporate averages. Subject to customary regulatory approvals, the transaction is expected to close by the end of Q2 2025.
