HENSOLDT Secures New Contract for ‘Dynahawk’ Fire Control Sights to Enhance Bundeswehr Capabilities

(IN BRIEF) HENSOLDT has received a new order from the Bundeswehr for its “Dynahawk” fire control sights, which will enhance the accuracy and operational capability of anti-tank weapons. The contract, worth several million euros, includes deliveries through 2025, with an option for more systems in 2026. The “Dynahawk” offers advanced features like optical magnification, a laser rangefinder, and a ballistics computer with environmental sensors, and is interoperable with key Bundeswehr weapon systems.

(PRESS RELEASE) WETZLAR, 14-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — HENSOLDT, a leading sensor specialist, has secured another significant order from the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) for the delivery of its advanced “Dynahawk” fire control sights (FLV). The order, valued at several million euros, will see deliveries completed this year and next, with an option for additional systems in 2026. HENSOLDT has previously supplied similar fire control sights, further cementing its role as a key partner to the Bundeswehr.

The “Dynahawk” fire control sight enhances the accuracy of deployed anti-tank weapons by significantly increasing the first-hit probability, even on dynamic and distant targets. According to Josef Reif, Sales Manager in HENSOLDT’s Sights division, the integration of the “Dynahawk” with the HENSOLDT IRV-MR night vision attachment ensures operational effectiveness during nighttime engagements as well.

Key features of the “Dynahawk” include a 5.5x optical magnification and a laser rangefinder, along with a sophisticated ballistics computer that is equipped with environmental sensors such as temperature, air pressure, and an angular rate sensor. These features enable the FLV to automatically identify the loaded ammunition and calculate the corresponding ballistics, offering multiple modes for engaging both static and dynamic targets.

Additionally, the FLV allows for the programming of the firing point, making it possible to use bursting or air-burst ammunition with pinpoint accuracy. A notable advantage of the “Dynahawk” is its interoperability with two key weapon systems used by the Bundeswehr: the “Wirkmittel 90” (DND RGW90) and the “leichte Wirkmittel 1800+” (MBDA Enforcer). Both systems can be deployed without any modifications to the “Dynahawk,” underscoring its versatility and efficiency in various operational scenarios.
