(PRESS RELEASE) HEIDELBERG, 2-Sep-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HEIDELBERG) is welcoming 80 new apprentices and dual-track students across Germany as the company begins its new training year and strengthens the skills needed for future growth areas.

The new recruits will support HEIDELBERG’s strategic development in its core businesses, including packaging and digital printing, as well as emerging businesses within HEIDELBERG Advanced Technologies targeting markets such as security, energy, electric mobility and automation.

HEIDELBERG currently trains around 300 apprentices and students across Germany through 16 vocational training programmes and 15 dual-study programmes.

The company said its training portfolio is continuously adapted to changing market requirements and its own long-term workforce needs.

New Data Science and Artificial Intelligence programme

A major addition this year is a new dual-study programme in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Through the programme, HEIDELBERG aims to expand expertise in data analysis, digitalisation and AI applications.

These competencies are becoming increasingly important as the company develops its position as a systems integrator providing end-to-end solutions while also building new business activities through HEIDELBERG Advanced Technologies.

Patrick Höflein, who begins the new dual-track programme on 1 September, previously completed an apprenticeship at HEIDELBERG as an IT specialist in data and process analysis.

He said the new programme provides an opportunity to deepen his expertise in a future-oriented field while combining his interests and skills with concrete career prospects at the company.

Höflein also highlighted HEIDELBERG’s existing use and development of artificial intelligence and said he looks forward to contributing to the company’s future.

Jürgen Otto, CEO of HEIDELBERG, said apprentices and dual-track students represent a significant investment in the company’s future.

He said they will help HEIDELBERG strengthen its technological leadership as a systems integrator, develop new business areas and sustainably support customers’ success.

Training aligned with future workforce requirements

HEIDELBERG said its professional training is designed around the company’s long-term staffing requirements.

Alongside a modern learning environment, apprentices and students receive targeted support, regular development discussions and opportunities for professional growth and career advancement.

The company also emphasises that strong performance is rewarded with career opportunities.

Melanie Jaklin, Head of Human Resources at HEIDELBERG, said young employees who demonstrate above-average performance, commitment and a willingness to learn can expect good development opportunities and attractive career prospects within the company.

Social responsibility integrated into professional development

HEIDELBERG also incorporates social responsibility and sustainable practices into its training programmes.

From the beginning of their training, young professionals participate in social, environmental and sustainability projects conducted in cooperation with regional partners and organisations.

The company said this approach is intended to develop social competencies alongside technical and professional skills.

Prospective apprentices can also gain insight into training at HEIDELBERG through the company’s apprentice-focused Instagram presence, where trainees publish their own content about different professions and their experiences.

Applications for 2027 already open

The application period for apprenticeships and dual-study programmes beginning in September 2027 is already underway.

HEIDELBERG said its selection process evaluates more than academic grades.

Social skills and candidates’ potential for their chosen career paths are also important considerations, particularly as digitalisation becomes increasingly significant across the industry.
