BELFAST, 16-Oct-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — GRAHAM is celebrating the topping out of the Erskine House development in Belfast city centre.

The final building structure is set to be completed in March 2019, when the interior fit-out will commence.

GRAHAM has also recently been awarded the interior fit-out contract following a competitive tendering process. The modern, hi-tech building will allow the leaseholders, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), to work in new ways – delivering an effective service for customers and providing better work environments for its people.

GRAHAM is one of the UK and Ireland’s leading construction, facilities management and project investment businesses.

Iconic project

Discussing the Erskine House contract, Jonathan Hall, Regional Managing Director at GRAHAM, says:

“We were delighted when Orby Investment Ltd, the developers of the scheme, awarded GRAHAM the contract to construct the eight-storey building. Erskine House is an iconic Belfast project and we are thrilled to play an instrumental role in reinvigorating this city centre space.

“The mixed purpose development will comprise ground floor retail units and approximately 105,000sq ft of high-end office accommodation. From Autumn 2019, HM Revenue and Customs will lease seven floors of office space in Erskine House for a period of at least 25 years. The offices will accommodate around 1,600 employees.

“We have been using digital technology on this site to capture and share information faster and more efficiently and ensure that Erskine House will stand out as a high-quality build.”

Next phase

Commenting on the next phase of the project, Mark Gibson, Managing Director of GRAHAM’s Interior Fit-Out division, says:

“The fit-out of Erskine House is a significant contract and winning it is a major endorsement of our Interior Fit-Out division. Projects of this scale support employment for a wide range of skilled professionals, which is positive for the wider community.

“In line with the project brief, our teams will be forming new bespoke ‘break out’ areas, tea points, collaborative working areas, cellular offices, catering, cafe and conference facilities. Work is scheduled to be completed in Autumn 2019.”

Multi-purpose space

Kevin McNaull, Senior Project Manager, Turner & Townsend, adds:

“Erskine House is a hugely significant project for both HMRC and Belfast city centre. Turner & Townsend has been working closely with the developer and HMRC to create an innovative, multi-purpose space.

“The topping out of Erskine House and the appointment of a fit-out contractor to deliver the scheme are major milestones in this transformative programme of work.”

Significant milestone

Sinead Murray, HMRC’s Senior Sponsor for Belfast Regional Centre, said:

“The topping out ceremony marks a significant milestone for our Regional Centres in Belfast and HMRC’s transformation into a modern, digitally advanced tax authority. We are creating a contemporary, collaborative workspace for our employees, including state of the art facilities and, when completed, the Erskine House development will be a great place to work.”
