(IN BRIEF) GKN Aerospace has secured a series of long-term repair agreements with Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business, covering more than 20 component types across the global GTF™ engine family. The agreements will run for the next five to 10 years and include repairs for critical engine cases, structures, rotating parts and complex PW1500G/PW1900G components. The work will be supported by GKN Aerospace sites in Sweden, Malaysia and the United States. The awards expand GKN Aerospace’s advanced repair capabilities, including Directed Energy Deposition additive repairs in Trollhättan, Sweden, composite fan blade repair capabilities in Johor, Malaysia, and thermal coatings plus ultrasonic shot peening in San Diego. The contracts reinforce GKN Aerospace’s role as a key MRO provider for Pratt & Whitney GTF engines.

(PRESS RELEASE) BIRMINGHAM, 22-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — GKN Aerospace has secured a series of long-term contract awards with Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business, strengthening its position as a key maintenance, repair and overhaul provider for GTF™ engines.

The multi-year agreements span the next five to 10 years and cover repair solutions for more than 20 component types across the global Pratt & Whitney GTF engine family.

The awards include repairs for critical engine cases, structures and rotating parts, reinforcing GKN Aerospace’s role in supporting fleet availability and lifecycle performance for GTF operators worldwide.

To support the growing GTF network, Pratt & Whitney has awarded GKN Aerospace multiple complex repair packages for PW1500G and PW1900G engine components.

GKN Aerospace will split the work between two of its three specialised repair sites, located in Trollhättan, Sweden, and Johor, Malaysia, while its San Diego, USA, facility is also expanding capabilities for advanced repair technologies.

The approach allows GKN Aerospace to use the specialised strengths of each facility while providing localised support for Pratt & Whitney’s global GTF customer base.

At the Trollhättan site in Sweden, GKN Aerospace will apply Directed Energy Deposition additive repair technology to PW1500G/PW1900G Exit Guide Vane stators.

Directed Energy Deposition enables material to be deposited in a highly controlled and precise way, allowing worn features to be restored on advanced engine components that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to repair using legacy methods.

GKN Aerospace said the use of DED technology reflects its investment in next-generation repair solutions for highly engineered aerospace components.

At the Johor site in Malaysia, GKN Aerospace will use its expanding workforce and technical capability in the Asia-Pacific region to support stator and stator assembly component repairs.

The Johor facility is also expanding its repair portfolio to include next-generation composite fan blades.

In San Diego, GKN Aerospace has significantly broadened its regional MRO capabilities. The facility is introducing advanced thermal coatings and new shot peening methods using ultrasonic technology.
