GKN Aerospace Adds LPC Vanes to Existing Risk and Revenue Sharing Programme With Pratt & Whitney

(IN BRIEF) GKN Aerospace has expanded its collaboration with Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business, through an agreement covering low-pressure compressor vanes for the PW1500G and PW1900G GTF™ engines, which power the Airbus A220 and Embraer E-Jet E2 aircraft families. The components will be included in GKN Aerospace’s existing risk and revenue sharing programme with Pratt & Whitney. The contract covers the majority of volumes for all major vanes in the low-pressure system and supports the engines across their full lifecycle. Production is centred at GKN Aerospace’s Newington facility, where highly automated robotic milling and in-house super-polishing processes are being used to improve lead times, yield and manufacturing performance. The next phase will focus on ramp-up, with full production targeted for the third quarter of 2026.

(PRESS RELEASE) BIRMINGHAM, 20-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — GKN Aerospace has secured a new agreement with Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business, expanding its long-standing risk and revenue sharing programme relationship on the PW1500G and PW1900G GTF™ engine programmes.

Under the agreement, low-pressure compressor vanes for the Pratt & Whitney PW1500G and PW1900G engines will be included within the existing risk and revenue sharing programme. The engines power the Airbus A220 and Embraer E-Jet E2 aircraft families.

The contract covers the majority of volumes for all major vanes in the low-pressure system. GKN Aerospace will support the engine programmes across their full lifecycle, which is expected to continue for many decades.

Joakim Andersson, President Engines at GKN Aerospace, said the agreement is an important milestone for the company and confirms the strength of its capabilities in blades and vanes.

“Adding these products to our current RRSP is a significant milestone for GKN Aerospace and a strong endorsement of our capabilities in blades and vanes,” said Andersson.

He added that securing the majority share of low-pressure compressor vane production on the PW1500G and PW1900G programmes strengthens GKN Aerospace’s collaboration with Pratt & Whitney and provides long-term stability for the company’s Newington facility.

Andersson said the agreement also positions GKN Aerospace for future opportunities on next-generation engine platforms.

GKN Aerospace began producing these components in 2018, initially with a smaller volume share. Since then, the partnership has expanded and the work has been further industrialised at the Newington site.

The low-pressure compressor vanes are manufactured using a highly automated robotic milling process developed in-house. GKN Aerospace has also introduced in-house super-polishing, reducing lead times, improving yield and strengthening manufacturing performance.

The company said the agreement marks another step in the development of its global capability in blades and vanes.

The award also reinforces Newington’s role as a centre of excellence for metallic aero-engine components and provides a platform for future growth.

The next phase of the programme will focus on production ramp-up, with the aim of reaching full production by the third quarter of 2026.

GKN Aerospace said the agreement reflects the strength of its collaboration with the Pratt & Whitney team and supports long-term continuity on two major geared turbofan engine programmes.
