(PRESS RELEASE) GENOA, 15-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a special ceremony during the “Genoa and Columbus Day” celebrations at Palazzo Ducale, Gian Luca Grondona, Chief HR, Organization & Systems Officer at Webuild Group, was honored with the title of Global Ambassador for the city of Genoa by Mayor Marco Bucci. Grondona received this recognition for his efforts in promoting the city’s innovation and global potential, while contributing significantly to civic engagement.

Expressing his gratitude, Grondona emphasized his deep connection to his hometown: “As a Genoese, I am truly honored by this recognition. It reflects our community’s resilience and collaboration, which are critical in overcoming challenges and building a better future for the younger generation.” He highlighted Webuild’s commitment to the region through strategic infrastructure projects like the Terzo Valico dei Giovi high-speed railway and the New Breakwater, which aims to transform Genoa into a global logistics hub. These initiatives, Grondona added, focus on specialized training, innovation, and sustainability, supported through collaborations with universities and institutions to generate lasting value for the city.

For nearly a decade, Grondona has led Webuild’s global efforts in human resources, quality, safety, and innovation, overseeing a workforce of 90,000 people from over 100 nationalities in more than 50 countries. His leadership has helped foster a culture of inclusion, diversity, and continuous learning within the company, driving both personal and business growth.

Webuild, well-known for its rapid reconstruction of the Genoa San Giorgio Bridge after the Morandi Bridge collapse in 2018, is currently working on other transformative projects in the city. These include the Terzo Valico dei Giovi, which will connect Genoa to Milan and integrate into Europe’s TEN-T network, and the New Breakwater, the deepest in Europe, designed to enhance the city’s competitiveness as a major European port.

In partnership with the University of Genoa, Webuild has also launched UniWeLab, a collaborative research and innovation hub aimed at fostering applied scientific research and developing sustainable mobility solutions. The lab is part of a broader collaboration between academia and industry, reflecting the company’s commitment to innovation and future-oriented training.

With a background in Political Science, Grondona’s career spans various industries. He began at Fiat Auto before moving to Indesit Company, where he served as Chief HR & Organization Officer. He has also held leadership roles in several industrial associations and contributed to educational programs at MIP Politecnico di Milano and Bocconi University.
