(IN BRIEF) ABL, a global energy and marine consultancy, has completed the marine warranty survey for Germany’s Ostsee Anbindungsleitung (OAL) subsea pipeline project. The pipeline, spanning 50 kilometers, connects the LNG terminal in Mukran to the German pipeline network in Lubmin, with plans to integrate green hydrogen in the future. ABL’s involvement ensured successful installation, with the pipeline ready for its first gas feed-in.

(PRESS RELEASE) HAMBURG, 13-Feb-2024 — /EuropaWire/ —  ABL Group (LON: 0QXF), a leading independent global energy and marine consultancy, working in energy and oceans to de-risk and drive the energy transition, proudly announces the successful completion of its marine warranty survey (MWS) scope for the Ostsee Anbindungsleitung (OAL) subsea pipeline project in Germany. The milestone marks a significant step forward as the project gears up for its first gas feed-in.

Commissioned by GASCADE Gastransport GmbH (GASCADE), ABL provided comprehensive MWS services to oversee the transportation and installation operations of the 50-kilometer-long, 48-inch subsea pipeline. The OAL pipeline links the planned LNG terminal in the port of Mukran to the German pipeline network in Lubmin, with future plans to integrate green hydrogen feed-ins via the Mukran entry point.

“OAL is an important energy infrastructure project which strengthens the security of gas supply in Germany and across Europe. ABL has a long history acting as marine warranty surveyor as well as engineering and marine consultant for the installation of some of the world’s most significant subsea pipeline projects. We are very pleased to lend our expertise to support this project offshore Germany,” remarked Sergio Leone, ABL’s MWS tender and project manager for the OAL pipeline project.

The recent completion of the above-water tie-in marks the conclusion of the subsea construction phase, achieved within a remarkably short timeframe. Ulrich Benterbusch, Managing Director of GASC ADE, expressed his gratitude, stating, “This means that the ambitious goal of enabling gas feed-ins into this pipeline in the winter of 2023/24 has been achieved. This is the contribution we can make as a transmission system operator to improving German and European security of supply and its resilience to crises. Despite a very ambitious schedule, we managed to complete the OAL in record time. My sincere thanks go to all those involved in the implementation.”

Throughout the project, ABL’s team in Germany, headquartered in Hamburg, coordinated day-to-day management, with on-site support from ABL’s extensive European network. Leveraging local technical expertise from ABL consultants across Germany, Holland, Norway, and France ensured operations were well-resourced and efficiently executed.

ABL is an independent energy and marine consultancy specializing in solutions to de-risk and drive the energy transition across renewables, maritime and oil and gas sectors. The company is part of Oslo-listed consultancy group ABL Group ASA.
