(IN BRIEF) Gasum has successfully delivered its second liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo to the Inkoo floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) in Finland. The cargo, provided by Gasum’s partner Equinor, arrived on November 5th and is being regasified for integration into Finland’s gas pipeline grid. This delivery is vital due to a rupture in the Balticconnector gas pipeline, which has led to a five-month shutdown. Gasum has secured three more slots at the Inkoo FSRU to ensure natural gas supply until spring 2024. Additionally, the FSRU will soon have the capability to load LNG onto smaller bunkering vessels, enhancing cargo utilization flexibility.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 6-Nov-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Gasum, a Nordic gas sector and energy market expert and a pioneer in clean energy solutions, has announced the successful delivery of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo to the Inkoo floating storage regasification unit (FSRU). The cargo, supplied by Gasum’s partner Equinor from Norway, arrived on Sunday, November 5th, and is currently being regasified at the FSRU before being fed into the Finnish gas pipeline grid.

This delivery marks Gasum’s second LNG cargo to the Inkoo FSRU, which has become essential due to the recent rupture and shutdown of the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia. Repairs to the pipeline are expected to take at least five months, necessitating the reliance on LNG imports to meet Finland’s natural gas demand.

The LNG cargo, approximately 400 GWh in size, ensures a stable natural gas supply for Gasum’s customers until spring 2024. Gasum has also secured three more slots at the Inkoo FSRU for the upcoming winter season. Additionally, the company is enhancing the FSRU’s capabilities to load LNG onto smaller bunkering vessels, increasing cargo utilization flexibility.

“We are working hard to secure supply of natural gas over the coming winter season to our customers, whose operations depend on a steady supply of gas. It is a challenging situation, but we already have experience from rebuilding our pipeline natural gas supply chain after natural gas imports from Russia were suspended in 2022”, says Jouni Liimatta, Head of Trading and Optimizing at Gasum.

As a vital component of Finland’s energy infrastructure, Gasum continues to adapt and innovate to maintain a reliable natural gas supply during challenging circumstances. The company’s partnership with Equinor, a Norwegian state-owned energy multinational, reinforces their commitment to energy security in the region.
