Gasum Opens 13th Liquefied Biogas Filling Station in Norway

(IN BRIEF) Gasum has opened its 13th liquefied biogas filling station in Norway at the Port of Trondheim, expanding access to renewable fuels for heavy transport in Trøndelag and along the E6 northwards. Located in an important logistics hub, the station offers both compressed and liquefied biogas and builds on Gasum’s first Trondheim facility, opened at Tiller in 2021. Gasum says biogas can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by around 95% compared with fossil fuels, while also supporting lower local nitrogen oxide emissions. The new station forms part of the company’s wider development of biogas infrastructure along Norway’s key transport corridors and supports national emissions-reduction targets for 2030 and 2035.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 3-Sep-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Gasum has opened a new biogas filling station at the Port of Trondheim, strengthening access to renewable fuels for heavy-duty transport in the Trøndelag region and along the E6 corridor north of Trondheim.

The new site is Gasum’s 13th liquefied biogas filling station in Norway and is located in a growing logistics hub with convenient access to the E6 highway.

The station will serve both local and national transport operators and forms part of Gasum’s wider expansion of biogas infrastructure along key Norwegian transport routes.

Gasum opened its first biogas filling station in Trondheim at Tiller in 2021. Since then, demand for renewable fuels has increased, prompting the company to expand capacity and strengthen security of supply in the region.

New station supports heavy transport along the E6

The Port of Trondheim location is particularly suited to heavy-duty vehicles travelling north from the city.

Gasum said availability of refuelling infrastructure is essential if more transport companies are to integrate biogas into their daily operations.

The new filling station offers both compressed biogas and liquefied biogas, allowing it to serve different types of gas-powered commercial vehicles.

The facility is located at Pier II 6, Port of Trondheim.

Biogas can substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Biogas is produced from organic feedstocks such as food waste, biological waste and manure, helping make use of materials that might otherwise be discarded.

Gasum said biogas can deliver substantial greenhouse gas savings compared with fossil fuels, particularly when manure is used as a feedstock.

On average, biogas can reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the fuel lifecycle by around 95% compared with fossil fuels.

Gas-powered vehicles can also contribute to improved local air quality by producing lower nitrogen oxide emissions than vehicles using conventional fuels.

Infrastructure supports Norway’s climate targets

Norway aims to reduce national greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and by 70–75% by 2035.

Transport accounts for roughly one-third of Norway’s CO₂ emissions, with road transport responsible for around half of transport-related emissions.

Gasum said expanding renewable fuel infrastructure for heavy-duty road transport can therefore play an important role in helping Norway work towards its climate targets.

The Trondheim station adds to Gasum’s growing national network along major transport corridors and is intended to improve both fuel availability and supply reliability for carriers operating in central and northern Norway.
