Gamesa to supply nine wind turbines to repower the Ovenden Moor wind farm in the UK

Repowering of this wind farm will enable it to produce twice as much renewable energy using less than half as many turbines

MADRID, 28-7-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — Gamesa, a global technology leader in wind energy, has been contracted to supply1nine wind turbines to repower the Ovenden Moor wind farm in the UK, developed by a joint venture between utility E.ON and renewable generator Energy Power Resources Ltd (EPRL). By replacing the old turbines, the facility – in operation since 1993 – will be refitted with modern technology and produce twice as much power using less than half as many turbines.

Under the terms of the agreement, Gamesa will supply, install and commission nine of its G80-2.0 MW wind turbines at the Ovenden Moor wind farm located close to the town of Halifax, in the county of West Yorkshire.

This repowering project, which is due to commence generation in 2016, will enable the replacement of 23 turbines that are 22 years of age and present aggregate capacity of 9 MW with nine Gamesa turbines that will produce twice as much power (18 MW).

The wind farm’s installed capacity, once upgraded to 18 MW, will enable the supply of renewable energy to close to 12,000 homes in the UK and displace the emission of 21,000 tonnes of GHG per annum.

1Contract signed during the second quarter of 2015.
