FIGO Opens Submissions for Montréal 2027 World Congress, Inviting Global Research, Innovation and Clinical Expertise to Advance Women’s Health

(IN BRIEF) FIGO will open submissions on 18 September 2026 for the XXVI FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics, inviting healthcare professionals, researchers, educators and advocates worldwide to contribute to the scientific programme for FIGO Montréal 2027, which will take place from 31 October to 5 November 2027 at the Montréal Convention Centre and is expected to attract more than 8,000 delegates. Held under the theme “Advancing innovation, equity and excellence in women’s health,” the Congress will accept abstracts, 60-minute breakout sessions, half- or full-day pre-Congress workshops, short films of up to three minutes and two-hour skills labs covering a wide range of topics in women’s health. FIGO’s Scientific Programme Committee is encouraging prospective contributors to choose the format best suited to their work, follow submission guidelines carefully, use clear and informative titles, describe interactive elements and learning outcomes in detail, and allow sufficient time for proofreading and refinement. Presenting authors of accepted abstracts may also be eligible for bursaries or fellowships, supporting FIGO’s wider aim of reducing financial barriers and ensuring that diverse research, clinical experience and perspectives from across the global women’s health community are represented at the Congress.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 7-Sep-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — FIGO will open submissions on 18 September 2026 for the XXVI FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics, inviting researchers, clinicians, educators, advocates and healthcare professionals worldwide to contribute to the scientific programme for FIGO Montréal 2027.

Taking place from 31 October to 5 November 2027 at the Montréal Convention Centre, the Congress is expected to welcome more than 8,000 delegates for six days of knowledge exchange, professional education and discussion on emerging approaches to improving women’s health and rights.

Under the theme “Advancing innovation, equity and excellence in women’s health,” FIGO Montréal 2027 will provide an international platform for research findings, clinical best practices, advocacy, education and innovation across obstetrics, gynecology and related areas of women’s healthcare.

FIGO invites contributions from across the global women’s health community

The Congress will bring together obstetrics and gynecology professionals from a wide range of specialties, geographical regions and career stages.

FIGO is encouraging participants to submit research, practical experience, innovative approaches and new perspectives that can contribute to the development of women’s health and rights.

Presenting at the Congress will give contributors an opportunity to share their work with an international audience while learning from professionals operating in different health systems, clinical environments and research disciplines.

FIGO said the Congress is also intended to create opportunities for professional networking and collaboration, enabling participants to exchange ideas and develop relationships with colleagues working toward shared objectives in women’s health.

Submissions available across five different formats

The scientific programme will cover a broad range of women’s health topics, with contributors encouraged to review the Congress’s scientific streams before deciding where their work fits best.

FIGO will accept submissions through five principal formats.

Abstracts will cover research submissions that may be selected for oral or ePoster presentation.

Breakout sessions will provide 60-minute parallel sessions and may take formats including lectures, seminars, panel discussions, interviews or debates.

Pre-Congress workshops, scheduled for 31 October 2027, will offer half-day or full-day programmes combining theoretical content with practical training.

Contributors may also submit short films of up to three minutes, which can highlight patient experiences, advocacy initiatives or provide context around clinical issues.

A fifth format, skills labs, will provide two-hour practical training sessions during the Congress.

Scientific Programme Committee highlights clarity and format selection

The FIGO Scientific Programme Committee is advising prospective contributors to review the relevant guidelines carefully before submitting their work.

Each submission format has its own requirements, and proposals that do not comply with mandatory criteria — such as the maximum duration for a short film — may be automatically disqualified.

The Committee also recommends giving particular attention to submission titles, which form the first impression for both reviewers and ultimately Congress delegates.

Titles and proposals should be clear, concise and informative, with unnecessary technical jargon avoided wherever possible.

Interactive proposals should focus on the delegate experience

FIGO is encouraging applicants to select the format that best suits the material they want to communicate.

A practical concept, for example, may be better suited to a skills lab, while a patient or advocacy story could be communicated more effectively through a short film.

For interactive formats such as breakout sessions, workshops and skills labs, contributors are advised to consider the experience they want participants to have and clearly explain what delegates will discuss, practise or learn.

FIGO recommends describing practical components in sufficient detail so reviewers can understand both the structure and expected learning outcomes.

Strong conclusions and careful preparation encouraged

Prospective presenters are also being urged to proofread their submissions carefully for clarity, completeness, spelling and grammar.

Where possible, FIGO recommends asking a colleague to review a submission before it is finalised.

Conclusions should clearly communicate the principal finding, message or learning point so reviewers and delegates can readily understand why the work matters.

Contributors are also encouraged to begin preparing early rather than waiting until the submission deadline, providing enough time to refine ideas, review guidelines and resolve any questions about requirements.

Congress offers opportunities to develop skills and international profile

FIGO said presenting research or practical work to an international audience can also help contributors strengthen communication and presentation skills, build professional confidence and increase the visibility of their research.

These opportunities apply both to first-time international presenters and experienced researchers and clinicians.

Participation in the programme is intended to give contributors a role in shaping discussions around new clinical practices, scientific developments, advocacy priorities and healthcare innovation.

Bursaries and fellowships aim to broaden participation

FIGO is also providing financial-support opportunities intended to reduce barriers to participation.

Presenting authors whose abstracts are accepted may be eligible for a bursary or fellowship, subject to the relevant eligibility requirements.

The initiative forms part of FIGO’s effort to broaden participation in the Congress and ensure that research and perspectives from different regions and economic settings can be represented in the scientific programme.

Montréal 2027 to focus on innovation, equity and excellence

FIGO Montréal 2027 is intended to provide a global forum where the women’s health community can challenge established thinking, share successful approaches and explore new solutions.

The organisation is encouraging prospective contributors to consider how their research, clinical experience, practical insights or advocacy work can add value to that international discussion.

Submissions open on 18 September 2026, ahead of the Congress taking place in Montréal from 31 October to 5 November 2027.
