Fiat Chrysler Automobiles reports 33,300 vehicles sold and market share at 28.3% for January 2013 in Italy

Turin, Italy, 4-2-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Fiat Chrysler Automobiles reports January sales in Italy of more than 33,300 vehicles and market share at 28.3%. The Lancia brand posted a 13.7% increase over the prior year, with market share up 40 basis points to 4.8%. Group models led the market once again in January, with the Panda, Punto, Ypsilon, 500L and 500 ranking as the five best selling cars for the month.

For the month of January, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles sales in Italy were just above 33,300 vehicles (-2.6% year-over-year), representing a 28.3% share of the market (-170 basis points). These results reflect the Group’s decision to preserve brand value, as demonstrated by further growth in contribution from the 500 family, which in January increased from 25.7% of Fiat brand sales to 34.5%.

Fiat brand posted January sales of just over 24,700 vehicles (-4.3% year-over-year), with market share down 160 basis points to 21%. The 500L built on the prior year’s strong momentum, ranking as the fourth best selling car in Italy for the month and increasing segment share to 51.3% (38.3% in January 2013). Continuing as the volume leader in Italy, the Panda posted a 40.1% share of the A segment, the 500 (5th overall) accounted for 19.2% of the A segment and the Punto (2nd overall) improved on its fourth quarter 2013 performance with a 15.9% share of the B segment.

Lancia had a very strong start to the year with January sales up 13.7% year-over-year to 5,700 vehicles and market share 40 basis points higher at 4.8%.
That result was driven by the Ypsilon, which was the second most popular car in the B segment for the month of January (with a 14.4% share) and the third best selling car in Italy overall.

Alfa Romeo sold 2,400 vehicles in January (down 14.4% from one year ago) and posted a 2% share of the market (-40 basis points).
The Giulietta remained among the most popular models in the C segment, with a 10.8% share. Delivery of the new LPG versions beginning in February is expected to boost sales further.

Jeep sold just over 500 vehicles for the month (-10.9% year-over-year) with share at 0.4%.
The Grand Cherokee was among the leaders in the Luxury SUV segment and improved its segment share from January 2013 to 18.3%. Results for the Jeep Compass and Jeep Wrangler (including the new limited edition Polar) were substantially in line with the prior year.
