FedEx Investment in Košice Supports International Growth for Eastern Slovak Companies

It can handle standard shipments as well as larger palletised freight and direct long-haul connections. The new site is FedEx’s second-largest facility in Slovakia and represents a significant investment in the region. It has been developed in response to rising demand from Slovak businesses seeking better access to international customers and suppliers.

Covering nearly 1,000 square metres, the modern logistics centre includes 18 pick-up and delivery docks and four flexible loading positions capable of handling both vans and long-haul trucks.

The facility expands the range of services FedEx can provide to local customers. In addition to standard shipments, it can process larger palletised freight and connect directly to long-haul routes, helping businesses reach markets across Europe and worldwide.

FedEx said optimised processes at the new site are already improving operational efficiency. Pick-up and delivery drivers now depart on average 45 minutes earlier each morning, while processing times for international shipments have been reduced by half.

For customers, these improvements are expected to mean faster transit times, earlier deliveries and greater reliability.

Nebojša Vasiljević, Managing Director, Ground Operations, Eastern Europe and the Nordics at FedEx, said the Košice facility marks another important step for FedEx and its customers in Slovakia.

The expansion comes as more Slovak businesses look beyond the domestic market. While companies continue to face challenges including shipping costs, operational complexity and international trade requirements, FedEx said appetite for global growth remains strong.

According to a recent FedEx survey, 85% of Slovak SMEs already trading internationally plan to expand into additional markets. FedEx said this places Slovakia among the most internationally ambitious SME markets in Central and Eastern Europe, alongside Poland.

“Slovak businesses have a strong offering and potential to succeed internationally,” Vasiljević said.

He added that companies need logistics partners that simplify international shipping and provide reliability at every stage.
