Experian launches Perpetual Monitoring solution to transform KYC and strengthen financial crime prevention

(IN BRIEF) Experian has launched its Financial Crime Compliance Perpetual Monitoring solution, a system designed to improve how financial institutions conduct KYC checks by replacing static, manual reviews with continuous monitoring. The solution automatically detects data changes that may indicate elevated risk, allowing investigators to focus on complex cases while easing the compliance burden for low-risk customers. Developed in collaboration with Lloyds Banking Group, where it is already in use as Automated Portfolio Monitoring, the solution has reduced friction in customer interactions and streamlined financial crime prevention. Experian plans to roll it out more broadly across the banking and lending industry, aiming to establish perpetual monitoring as a new industry standard.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 9-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Experian has unveiled a new Financial Crime Compliance Perpetual Monitoring solution that transforms how banks and lenders conduct Know Your Customer (KYC) checks, helping institutions reduce operational friction, enhance customer experience, and focus more resources on tackling high-risk threats such as money laundering and account misuse.

KYC frameworks require financial institutions to regularly review and validate customer information, but traditional processes are often manual, time-intensive, and divert attention away from the riskiest cases. Experian’s new solution addresses this by continuously monitoring both internal and external data sources. Instead of relying on static, periodic reviews, the system automatically identifies significant changes that may signal elevated risk and alerts investigators to take appropriate action.

This proactive monitoring model ensures that routine checks for low-risk customers are handled more efficiently, while investigators can dedicate more time to complex cases. The result is a balance between compliance rigor and operational efficiency, ultimately creating a smoother customer journey and a stronger defense against financial crime.

The solution has already been piloted with several major banks and lenders and is being rolled out more widely over the coming year. Notably, Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) partnered with Experian to develop the industry’s first perpetual monitoring framework, known as Automated Portfolio Monitoring (APM), which LBG has successfully deployed.

Grant MacDonald, Director of FinCrime Market Engagement at Experian UK&I, said: “At Experian, we focus on delivering solutions that create tangible value for clients. This Perpetual Monitoring capability pioneers the use of advanced technology to help institutions prioritize resources on higher-risk accounts while fulfilling their KYC and AML obligations. Our ambition is for Perpetual Monitoring to become the industry standard across UK financial services, ensuring best-in-class protection against financial crime.”

Tom Martin, Business Platform Lead at Lloyds Banking Group, added: “Our collaboration with Experian demonstrates how financial institutions can work together to combat organized financial crime. Automated Portfolio Monitoring has reduced friction for our customers, cutting unnecessary touchpoints and creating a smoother experience while maintaining the highest compliance standards.”

Experian’s latest innovation underscores its commitment to applying advanced data and technology to help protect the financial system, safeguard consumers, and provide financial institutions with the tools needed to adapt to a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.
