Evonik Strengthens Biomanufacturing Offering With New Protein Expression Kit

(IN BRIEF) Evonik has partnered with Zurich-based evitria to offer the eviCHO Expression Kit, a ready-to-use transient protein expression kit based on CHO cells for biopharmaceutical research and development. The kit is designed to simplify workflows, reduce troubleshooting and support faster, more reliable protein production in early biologics development. The collaboration gives Evonik customers access to evitria’s expertise in CHO-based transient antibody expression. evitria has performed more than 125,000 transfections and expressed and purified over 25,000 antibodies and antibody-based molecules. The partnership strengthens Evonik’s Advance Precision Biosolutions growth field and expands its biomanufacturing solutions portfolio, following its 2025 partnership with InVitria for recombinant human serum albumin.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, 15-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Evonik has partnered with evitria, a global specialist in antibody expression, to offer a ready-to-use transient protein expression kit designed to support faster and more reliable early-stage biologics development.

The new eviCHO Expression Kit is based on CHO cells and is intended for use in biopharmaceutical research and development. It simplifies transient protein expression workflows and enables more consistent protein production, helping researchers accelerate laboratory processes during the early stages of biologics development.

Through the collaboration, Evonik is expanding access to evitria’s specialist expertise while strengthening its own portfolio of precision biosolutions for biopharma customers. The partnership also supports Evonik’s strategic growth field, Advance Precision Biosolutions.

Guido Skudlarek, Head of the Health Care business line at Evonik, said the partnership brings together evitria’s proven capabilities with Evonik’s biopharma experience.

“By combining evitria’s proven capabilities with our extensive biopharma experience, we are connecting our customers with best-in-class protein expression solutions,” said Skudlarek. “Our goal is to simplify processes, enable faster biologics development, and therefore further strengthen our position in the biopharma value chain.”

Chinese Hamster Ovary cells, commonly known as CHO cells, are widely used to produce proteins such as antibodies for biopharmaceutical applications. In early-stage research, transient protein expression is often used to produce proteins quickly for short-term studies, avoiding the longer process of creating stable cell lines.

However, working with CHO cells in early research can be complex and time-consuming. The new eviCHO Expression Kit, based on CHO-K1 cells, is designed to make the process easier by providing ready-to-use components and commercially proven protocols.

By reducing the need for troubleshooting, the kit helps streamline laboratory workflows and supports faster, more consistent transient protein production. This can help researchers move more efficiently through the early development of new biologics.

evitria, based in Zurich, Switzerland, specialises in CHO-based transient expression of antibodies. The company has completed more than 125,000 transfections and successfully expressed and purified more than 25,000 antibodies and antibody-based molecules.

The company serves customers worldwide, including academic institutions, emerging biotech companies and major biopharmaceutical organisations across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Stefan Schmidt, Chief Scientific Officer of evitria and the Atlas Antibodies group, said the kit builds naturally on the company’s expertise in CHO-based transient expression.

“Together with Evonik, we are making it easier for customers to achieve consistent, high-quality results in their own lab,” said Schmidt.

Evonik said the partnership marks another step in expanding its portfolio of solutions for biomanufacturing. In 2025, the company also partnered with recombinant protein developer InVitria to broaden its offering with recombinant human serum albumin.

Drawing on more than 60 years of experience, Evonik provides a portfolio of non-animal-derived, chemically defined ingredients for biomanufacturing. These include amino acids, dipeptides, lipids and surfactants designed to support the next generation of pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical production.

Evonik: Leading beyond chemistry
