Evonik exhibits at Interzum 2017 trade show for furniture production and interior fittings

PLEXIGLAS® booth design at Interzum 2017

Weiterstadt, Germany, 19-May-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — Evonik is exhibiting for the first time at Interzum 2017, the world’s leading trade show for furniture production and interior fittings. At a lavishly designed stand, the Essen-based specialty chemicals company is showcasing the versatile application possibilities of its PLEXIGLAS® brand.

Although PLEXIGLAS® has long been used in shopfitting and lighting design, more and more furniture producers and interior designers are coming to rely on this versatile material. “From early days, inspiration has been the essence of the PLEXIGLAS® brand. We want to inspire designers, architects, and other users to realize their projects using our wide product portfolio,” says Martin Krämer, head of Evonik’s Acrylic Products Business Line.

This is why the company is inviting visitors to its stand to change their perspective: Individual exhibits such as a dining table or chest of drawers are mounted on a wall or on the ceiling to stimulate the creative instincts of visitors to the show.

In interior fittings and furniture design there is a wide range of materials to choose from. The decision to use a particular material—whether glass, wood, metal, or plastic—has a decisive influence on the visual appearance of the object. High-gloss surfaces, for example, have a particularly classy look while velvety ones appear warm and soft. Both can be realized with various materials from the PLEXIGLAS® family.

On unit facades, for instance, highly transparent PLEXIGLAS® Optical HC with its scratch-resistant coating, lends a particularly sophisticated appearance combined with a high degree of durability. The material can also be back-printed as required, allowing customized object design.

Thanks to a special production process in which transparent and colored layers are inseparably fused, PLEXIGLAS® Hi-Gloss offers a unique depth effect. This allows a seam-free solution for replacing, for example, a backsplash in the kitchen or the shower paneling in the bathroom without the need for costly renovation work.

And Evonik has even more to offer with other variants of its branded acrylic: The satinized surface of PLEXIGLAS® Satinice, for example, has a particularly warm and soft appearance. Apart from being used in furniture production, the material, illuminated or otherwise, also allows an impressive interplay of color and light.

“Like virtually all PLEXIGLAS®, it can be colored or printed in almost any way and is easily worked; it is also lighter and less easily broken than glass, and does not discolor,” says Lisa Langel, who is responsible for the Furniture market segment of PLEXIGLAS®. With its immense versatility, it is the ideal material for many applications in the furniture industry and interior design.

“For the intelligent design of our business we must systematically develop PLEXIGLAS® further in a process of evolution that, 80 years after the material was invented, is still nowhere near its end,” says Krämer. “With our passion for acrylic we want to help designers realize their design intentions in the best possible way with PLEXIGLAS® and so attain the maximum benefit for the customer.” Evonik is thus once again positioning itself as a holistic solutions provider giving particular importance to the needs of its customers.
