European Commission DG INTPA and Accenture Deploy AI Assistant for International Partnerships Work

(IN BRIEF) Accenture has supported the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships in designing, building and scaling an AI Assistant for staff across headquarters and delegations worldwide. The platform, launched in March 2026, already has more than 2,000 regular users and has processed over 400,000 queries. The AI Assistant is tailored to DG INTPA’s terminology, procedures, policy priorities and working methods. It combines advanced language models with secure access to internal knowledge, documents and internet connectivity, helping staff work more efficiently on policy, funding and operational tasks across more than 100 countries. The programme was developed with support from Accenture’s Brussels AI Lab and includes a strong focus on security, responsible use, staff training and human review. The next phase will introduce agentic AI to support structured workflows and deeper integration into DG INTPA’s core business processes.

(PRESS RELEASE) BRUSSELS, 16-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Accenture has worked with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships to design, build and scale an AI Assistant that is changing how staff work across the Directorate-General’s headquarters and delegations worldwide.

Since September 2025, Accenture has supported DG INTPA in adopting AI-powered ways of working, developing a production-level capability designed to help staff access institutional knowledge, work faster on complex policy and funding matters, and free up more time for judgement, policy analysis and strategic decision-making.

The AI Assistant was launched in March 2026 and has already attracted more than 2,000 regular users. Staff have generated more than 400,000 queries across a wide range of topics.

Unlike general off-the-shelf AI tools, the Assistant has been tailored to DG INTPA’s specific terminology, procedures, policy priorities and working methods within the European Commission’s international partnerships function.

The platform combines advanced language models with secure access to internal knowledge and documents, as well as internet connectivity, enabling contextually relevant support for teams working across more than 100 countries.

Accenture said the system is helping streamline routine activities while giving staff greater capacity to focus on complex analysis, policy reflection and strategic work.

Gabriel Bellenger, Lead for Government Transformation at Accenture, said the collaboration brings together the European Commission’s policy leadership in international partnerships with Accenture’s technical expertise and delivery experience.

He added that the value of AI comes not only from the technology itself, but from embedding it into policy environments, governance frameworks and day-to-day workflows.

The programme was developed with support from Accenture’s Brussels AI Lab, a dedicated facility opened in 2023 where public-sector clients can test and evaluate AI and generative AI solutions in a controlled environment before moving them into production.

Security, resilience, normative alignment and responsible use were built into the platform from the beginning. Accenture said a people-centred approach has also been central to the design and rollout of the programme.

As access to the Assistant expands, the focus is on training staff to use it responsibly, critically assess its outputs and apply appropriate human review.

The initiative reflects a wider challenge facing public-sector organisations around the world. Accenture research shows that while 70% of surveyed agencies have deployed advanced AI tools, only 35% are significantly upskilling their workforce to use them effectively.

The DG INTPA programme is designed to help close that gap by creating more room for human analysis, policy judgement and strategic decision-making.

The next phase of the programme will introduce agentic AI to support defined workflows, moving beyond information retrieval into structured task execution.

A structured end-user feedback mechanism will allow DG INTPA staff to rate responses and provide free-text comments, creating a feedback loop to keep improving the system.

DG INTPA has identified a broad set of use cases to embed the Assistant more directly into core business processes, with the aim of streamlining routine work and increasing capacity for policy analysis, judgement and strategic priorities.
