EUR 300m EIB loan in support of European aeronautics leader EADS

Support for aerospace innovation

24-4-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — We are helping European aeronautics leader EADS with its research and development programme. They are improving aircraft aerodynamics and flight control systems, with benefits for lower pollution and increased safety. A new EUR 300m EIB loan will support this innovative work, bringing to EUR 800m our total backing for R&D by the group.

“Innovation and research are at the heart of EADS’ mission and are essential to guarantee the long-term success of the group,” said Harald Wilhelm, Chief Financial Officer of EADS & Airbus. This new funding will be focused on developing products which will cut the impact of aviation on the environment though lower CO2 and nitrogen emissions and reduced noise.

“The EIB is one of our privileged finance partners, which has been supporting EADS for several years in developing ever more innovative technologies,” Mr Wilhelm added. “We very much appreciate this new agreement which demonstrates the solidity of our relationship and our joint will to accompany the sustainable development of air transport.” EIB Vice-President Philippe de Fontaine Vive welcomed the signature saying it: “demonstrates our priority commitment to innovation and R&D in Europe.”
