(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 16-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has been awarded a significant 5G contract by Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan’s leading telecom provider, to modernize its mobile network infrastructure. This partnership underscores Ericsson’s role in delivering advanced, energy-efficient 5G technology solutions that will help Chunghwa Telecom meet growing customer demand while supporting its commitment to sustainability.

This contract includes the full range of Ericsson’s 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio, including state-of-the-art remote radios like the dual-band Radio 4490HP, which significantly reduces both carbon footprint and energy consumption. These radios offer enhanced capacity, uplink performance, and energy efficiency, laying the foundation for a sustainable and future-ready network.

Dr. Chung Yung Chia, Vice President of the Network Technology Group at Chunghwa Telecom, stated, “Ericsson’s innovative 5G technology supports our efforts to enhance network efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. This collaboration is key to achieving our Net Zero target by 2045, a goal recently validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).”

Chunghwa Telecom will also benefit from Ericsson’s AI-driven Intelligent RAN power-saving solutions, which optimize network energy consumption through advanced machine learning technologies, ensuring reduced energy usage without compromising network performance. Additionally, Ericsson’s Site Digital Twin solution will enhance digital engineering and asset lifecycle management, accelerating design and deployment processes.

David Chou, President at Ericsson, added, “Our shared vision with Chunghwa Telecom is to scale up 5G capabilities while achieving Net Zero emissions. This partnership demonstrates that we can advance mobile network performance while making a positive impact on energy efficiency.”

This contract builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two companies at the Mobile World Congress 2024, where they committed to advancing 5G-Advanced technology with a focus on energy savings, intelligent network operations, and automation.
