TURIN, 21-4-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — Young Italian driver Eric Scalvini (Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evolution) won the first round’s second race of the Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europe and the National Trophy AciSport Abarth Selenia Italy, held at Monza. Under the checkered flag Eric precedes countryman Maurizio Campani and Finnish frontrunner Juuso Pajuranta. With this success Scalvini takes the lead of the overall standings in both Abarth championships, in which precedes Campani and Swedish Lilja, winner of the first race yesterday (Saturday 18th).

The second race saw then on the podium two 20-years-old-racers like Scalvini and Pajuranta. The Finn drove for the first time his Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evolution, after he imposed last year in the Abarth 500 Assetto Corse category.

The reversal of the grid based on the top-8 drivers in the Race 1 made even more spectacular the second event of the Monza’s weekend. “Fischerman” started in pole position, flanked by Scalvini, but the latter took the lead after the first chicane. Immediately after, with the spin of “Gioga” at the “variante Roggia” the safety car came in and during two consecutive laps.

It resumed on lap three with “Fischerman” that left his second position to Buffoli, Lilja, Campani and Pajuranta. In the fourth round Lilja surpassed Buffoli and started hunting Scalvini until lap 5, when he overtook the Italian driver, and becoming the current leader of the race.

Lilja’s leadership didn’t last long, as the Swede went into a spin at “Variante Ascari”, causing the involvement of the safety car, again. With five drivers grouped in a few tenths of second, the final round has been decisive. Buffoli went into a spin at the first chicane and Scalvini barely resisted to the attacks of Campani and Pajuranta, which finished in the order.

Among the Abarth 500 Assetto Corse Swedish Appelqvist preceded compatriot Darbom and Italian Arrigosi while Cimarelli was forced to retire in the early stages of the race.

The next round of the National Trophy AciSport Abarth Selenia Italy takes place on Sunday, May 3rd, at the Vallelunga Circuit (near Rome). The Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europe resumes instead on Sunday, July 12th, at the Mugello Circuit in Tuscany.
