(PRESS RELEASE) EDINBURGH, 3-Apr-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — Equinor Energy AS, operator of production licence 885, containing the Presto prospect, has just finished the drilling of wildcat well 36/1-3. Transocean Spitsbergen drilling facility was responsible for the drilling of the well 36/1-3, and will now proceed to production licence 870 in the central part of the North Sea to drill wildcat well 25/6-6 S, where Equinor Energy AS is operator.

Cairn has a 30% working interest in the Presto prospect through its wholly owned subsidiary Capricorn Norge AS.

This is the first exploration well in production licence 885, which was awarded in APA2016.

The well 36/1-3 was drilled about 15 kilometers east of the 35/3-2 (Agat) gas discovery and 55 kilometres northwest of Florø, in the northern part of the North Sea.

The well’s primary and secondary exploration targets were to examine reservoir rocks from the Early Cretaceous Age, which is the upper and lower part of the Agat formation.

Well 36/1-3 reached the Agat formation with a thickness of about 180 meters, of which 55 meters of reservoir rocks with good to very good reservoir quality. The well is dry. Data acquisition and sampling have been carried out as well.

The well was terminated in basement rock after being drilled to a vertical depth of 2873 meters below the sea surface while the water depth at the site is 230 meters. The well has been permanently plugged and abandoned.
