Eni and BWT Alpine Formula One Team Expand Partnership With HVO Biofuel Logistics Initiative

HVOlution is Enilive’s diesel biofuel produced from 100% renewable raw materials

(IN BRIEF) BWT Alpine Formula One Team will use HVOlution, Enilive’s HVO diesel biofuel produced from 100% renewable raw materials, to power its logistics vehicles during European rounds of the FIA Formula One World Championship. The initiative is part of the wider partnership between Eni and the team, with Eni serving as Official Energy and Fuel Partner. HVOlution will be used for vehicles transporting the team’s cars and infrastructure across major European countries, supported by more than 1,700 Enilive service stations and managed through the Multicard system. Produced at Enilive’s biorefineries in Venice and Gela mainly from waste and residues such as used cooking oils and animal fats, HVOlution is a drop-in fuel that requires no engine or distribution infrastructure modifications. Enilive said its HVO achieved an average 79.5% reduction in CO₂eq emissions across the full value chain in 2025 compared with the reference fossil mix.

(PRESS RELEASE) ROME, 1-Sep-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — BWT Alpine Formula One Team will use HVOlution, Enilive’s diesel biofuel made from 100% renewable raw materials, to power its logistics vehicles during European rounds of the FIA Formula One World Championship.

The initiative forms part of the partnership between Eni and BWT Alpine Formula One Team, under which Eni returned to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship as the team’s Official Energy and Fuel Partner.

Starting this season, HVOlution will be used by vehicles transporting BWT Alpine Formula One Team’s cars and infrastructure across key European countries.

Refuelling will be supported by Enilive’s network of more than 1,700 service stations where HVOlution is available.

The process will be managed through the Multicard system.

The team’s logistics fleet will be equipped to use HVOlution exclusively over the coming weeks.

Renewable diesel biofuel for road logistics

HVOlution is a pure HVO, or Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, diesel biofuel.

It is produced at Enilive’s biorefineries in Venice and Gela, mainly from waste and residues such as used cooking oils and animal fats.

Enilive said HVOlution is a drop-in fuel, meaning it does not require modifications to engines or distribution infrastructure.

As a result, the company said it represents an immediately available solution that can contribute to the decarbonisation of road transport.

According to Enilive, across the full value chain in 2025, the average reduction in CO₂ equivalent emissions from its HVO was 79.5% compared with the reference fossil fuel mix, calculated according to the conventional criterion of the EU Renewable Energy Directive.

The average was weighted based on the feedstock batches processed at Enilive’s Venice and Gela biorefineries.

Partnership with BWT Alpine Formula One Team

The agreement was developed within the broader partnership between Eni and BWT Alpine Formula One Team.

The alliance also includes collaboration on the future development of biofuels for top-level motorsport.

Stefano Ballista, Chief Executive Officer of Enilive, said BWT Alpine Formula One Team’s decision to use HVOlution represents a strategic step that further strengthens the partnership.

He said the initiative reinforces Enilive’s role as a partner for sustainable mobility and contributes tangibly to decarbonising the logistics of one of the world’s most popular and innovative sports championships.

Ballista added that the project gives international visibility to HVOlution, which he described as a biofuel capable of accelerating the decarbonisation of a large share of diesel-powered vehicles and already widely available at Enilive stations across Europe.

Flavio Briatore, Executive Advisor of BWT Alpine Formula One Team, said the introduction of HVOlution into the team’s logistics activities marks another important collaboration with Eni.

He said the partnership, which began around energy and fuel technology, is becoming increasingly strategic.

Briatore added that the project demonstrates a relationship built on trust and said the team looks forward to continuing to strengthen the partnership both on and off track.
