(PRESS RELEASE) THE HAGUE, 16-Jan-2020 — /EuropaWire/ — European Network for Cyber Security (ENCS) welcomes its newest member – Elering, Estonia’s national Transmission System Operator (TSO) for electricity and natural gas. By joining ENCS, Elering will help strengthen the energy sector’s cyber defences.

Estonia’s national transmission grid and international interconnections are relying on Elering which ensures the proper functioning of the electricity system in the country.

Taavi Veskimägi, CEO of Elering, on joining ENCS:

“Elering acknowledges that cyber security is increasingly important for critical energy infrastructure. We are confident that the deep insight provided by ENCS will help us achieve our goals.”

European Network for Cyber Security (ENCS) is already in close cooperation with many different utilities across Europe helping share knowledge and expertise as well as collaborating on capacity building and conducting security tests and training.

Commenting on enhancing Europe’s energy grid resilience, Anjos Nijk, Managing Director at ENCS, said:

“After our initial focus on DSOs, who took the initiative to establish and grow ENCS, we are now rapidly extending our collaboration and focus to the TSO domain where issues like cross-border risks and DER security can be even more imminent. We are excited that the innovative Elering is now further strengthening our community, enabling further harmonisation and faster capacity building to enhance Europe’s energy grid resilience”.

Laurent Schmitt, Secretary General of ENTSO-E, on Elering joining ENCS:

“We are happy that Elering joins ENCS. ENTSO-E has a good history of collaboration with ENCS in our security training program, joint cybersecurity events and collaboration in European projects aiming at preparing the Network Code Cybersecurity. Solving grid cybersecurity issues is really complex rocket science requiring to develop cross functional collaboration.”
