Einstein Healthcare Network selects Barco healthcare displays and QA service to enhance diagnostic imaging

Duluth, Ga., USA, 5-12-2012 — /europawire.eu/ — Healthcare imaging specialist Barco is supplying its latest 3D digital mammography and diagnostic display systems, in addition to QA and calibration service, to the Einstein Healthcare Network to boost medical imaging capabilities for viewing PACS images on its Fujifilm Synapse PACS system.

Einstein Healthcare Network (EHN) looked to Barco when deciding to upgrade the diagnostic displays for its Pennsylvania medical centers after experiencing positive results with Barco’s Coronis 5MP Mammo display. After extensive research, EHN procured Barco’s Coronis Fusion 4MP DL color widescreen displays and cutting-edge Mammo Tomosynthesis 5MP displays to enhance the brightness and image quality of digital patient exams.

“We’ve had quite a few different monitors on our network, and the Barco displays are flawless! Our radiologists have expressed a clear preference for them because of the improved brightness and image clarity. However, the biggest benefit is the ability to do two types of exams in the same place,” commented Terence Matalon, MD, Chairman, Department of Radiology for Einstein Healthcare Network. “Overall, the Barco monitor is a very well-conceived piece of equipment that works extremely well with our Fujifilm PACS system. The integration was seamless and the centralized monitoring capabilities are superior.”

Image quality, brightness and reliability improve viewing accuracy
The Mammo Tomosynthesis 5MP is a revolutionary display that offers precise, accurate viewing of the latest 3D digital breast tomosynthesis exams to improve cancer detection. The Coronis Fusion 4MP DL is a true multi-modality, widescreen PACS display system which can be used as a single 4 megapixel display or two 2 megapixel heads. Both models feature ultra-brightness, high contrast and proprietary image-enhancing features to reveal even the subtlest artifacts for a more confident diagnosis.

MediCal QAWeb maximizes display uptime across the healthcare network
Because EHN is a distributed healthcare network comprising six medical facilities located in Southeastern Pennsylvania, it was essential to acquire an automated quality assurance system with centralized management capabilities. EHN is using Barco’s MediCal QAWeb to ensure 24/7 DICOM compliance while maximizing uptime of all displays on the network. MediCal QAWeb is the industry’s only fully automated online QA and calibration service that manages display performance in the background, for truly interruption-free maintenance.

“With the flexibility, brightness and single-unit configuration with no bezel, we’ve been able to replace multiple configurations for specific modality interpretation with a single display,” commented R. Scott McMoran, Manager, Radiology Systems for Einstein Healthcare Network. “This allows us to reduce the amount of hot spare configurations we keep in stock and reduce the deployment customization time. Centralized monitoring and inventory is also a huge benefit. The ability to see the real-time status and perform an accurate live inventory has helped reduce the guesswork on what is deployed. It also gives us the ability to remotely troubleshoot some calls.”

“We are very pleased that Einstein Healthcare Network is enjoying the benefits of Barco’s diagnostic display solutions which represent years of ongoing, dedicated investment in the latest imaging technologies,” commented Mike Sklar, Vice President Sales, Healthcare for Barco North America. “We are keenly focused on developing meaningful, ergonomic innovations, not just unique features, to meet the needs of physicians seeking ways to improve patient care, clinical performance and efficiency in the reading room.”
