EIB Vice-President Visits Trifyl’s Facility to Celebrate Success in Circular Economy and Green Transition

(IN BRIEF) EIB Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle visited Trifyl’s headquarters in southern France to tour its advanced waste sorting facility. The EIB’s €40 million loan helped Trifyl complete its Horizon 2030 project, enabling the recycling of 80% of household waste, reducing CO2 emissions, and generating biogas to contribute to the region’s energy needs. The project also created nearly 50 local jobs.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUXEMBOURG, 25-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Ambroise Fayolle, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), recently visited the headquarters of Trifyl, a collaborative waste recycling association serving the Tarn department in southern France. During his visit to Labessière-Candeil, Fayolle toured Trifyl’s state-of-the-art facility dedicated to waste sorting and recovery. Fayolle, who is responsible for climate and environmental initiatives at the EIB, was welcomed by Trifyl President Daniel Vialelle, European Parliament Member Claire Fita, and other local elected officials.

Trifyl’s commitment to improving waste reduction and recycling processes led the association to seek financing from the EIB for its ambitious Trifyl Horizon 2030 project. In 2022, the EIB granted Trifyl a loan of €40 million, enabling the association to continue advancing its efforts to promote a circular economy and support the energy transition within the region.

The financing helped Trifyl complete the construction of three new waste sorting and treatment units, which now enable the association to recycle nearly 80% of household waste. This initiative has resulted in a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, cutting CO2 emissions by 23%. Additionally, the facility produces biogas that accounts for 10% of Tarn’s energy consumption. The project also created nearly 50 jobs, both directly and indirectly, benefiting the local community.

Following his tour, Fayolle praised the project’s impact, stating, “Trifyl is not only making a positive impact on the Tarn community but also on the climate by reducing CO2 emissions and advancing recycling efforts. The EIB is proud to support such innovative projects, which align with the EU’s sustainable development goals, green transition, and energy autonomy.”

In response, Trifyl President Daniel Vialelle expressed gratitude to the EIB, noting, “Waste management is a critical issue today, and Trifyl has developed a comprehensive solution that benefits both our community and the environment. The support from the EIB reflects our shared commitment to sustainable actions that ensure a cleaner, greener future for all.”
