EIB Partners with Crédit Agricole to Deliver €100 Million in Green Loans to Polish Mid-Caps

IB Partners with Crédit Agricole to Deliver €100 Million in Green Loans to Polish Mid-Caps

(IN BRIEF) EIB has provided a €50 million green loan to Crédit Agricole Bank Polska, allowing the Polish subsidiary to issue up to €100 million in low-cost loans to mid-caps—especially in lower-income regions—for renewable-energy, electric-vehicle, and energy-efficiency projects. At least 30 percent of the funds are dedicated to climate-positive investments, with borrowing costs set at least 25 basis points below market. The deal supports RePowerEU goals, deepens the EIB–Crédit Agricole partnership, and aims to unlock further private capital for Poland’s mid-cap sector.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUXEMBOURG, 4-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — EIB has granted a €50 million green loan to Crédit Agricole Bank Polska, enabling the bank to extend up to €100 million in new, competitively priced financing to Polish mid-cap companies. At least 30 percent of this facility is earmarked for climate and sustainability projects—marking the first such EIB arrangement with Crédit Agricole’s Polish unit—and will primarily target cohesion regions where per-capita income trails the EU average.

Under the agreement, Crédit Agricole Bank Polska will offer loans and credit lines of up to €25 million per investment, with interest rates at least 25 basis points below market levels. Eligible uses include solar and biogas installations, electric-vehicle acquisitions, and energy-efficiency upgrades in buildings, supporting mid-caps through their energy-transition journeys.

“We are supporting Polish mid-caps’ shift to cleaner energy—from renewables deployment to efficiency measures,” said EIB Vice-President Teresa Czerwińska. “By providing strategic resources, we aim to catalyse further private investment in this vital segment of the economy.”

Bernard Muselet, Senior Country Officer and Vice-President of Crédit Agricole Bank Polska, added, “This partnership addresses entrepreneurs’ growing demand for sustainable financing and paves the way for an economy built on innovation and long-term growth.”

The transaction bolsters the EU’s RePowerEU initiative to reduce reliance on Russian fossil fuels and underscores the EIB’s role as the EU’s climate bank. It also reinforces a longstanding collaboration between the EIB and Crédit Agricole across France, Italy, and Poland, funding projects from energy transition to digitalisation.

Background information

EIB
The European Investment Bank (ElB) is the long-term lending institution of the European Union, owned by its Member States. Built around eight core priorities, we finance investments that contribute to EU policy objectives by bolstering climate action and the environment, digitalisation and technological innovation, security and defence, cohesion, agriculture and bioeconomy, social infrastructure, the capital markets union, and a stronger Europe in a more peaceful and prosperous world.

The EIB Group, which also includes the European Investment Fund (EIF), signed nearly €89 billion in new financing for over 900 high-impact projects in 2024, boosting Europe’s competitiveness and security. Approximately half of the EIB’s financing within the European Union is directed towards cohesion regions, where per capita income is lower than the EU average.

In Poland, the EIB signed €5.7 billion in new investments last year, nearly half of which was awarded to climate and environment projects, including energy transition.

All projects financed by the EIB Group are in line with the Paris Climate Agreement, as pledged in our Climate Bank Roadmap. Almost 60% of the EIB Group’s annual financing supports projects directly contributing to climate change mitigation, adaptation, and a healthier environment.

Credit Agricole Bank Polska (CABP) is part of the Crédit Agricole Group – one of the 10 largest financial institutions in the world. It has been operating in Poland since 2001. It serves over one million individual customers as well as small and medium-sized enterprises, farmers and agricultural enterprises and corporations. It also operates in the area of consumer loans, offering a full range of banking products and services, as well as insurance and assistance services.

CABP is one of the leading banks supporting the energy transformation of the Polish economy. In 2025, in the ranking of the “BANK” monthly, it came fifth in the general classification and second among banks granting SLL (Sustainability-Linked Loans) loans. It offers its clients a wide range of credit products intended for financing “green” investments, including Green Loans with subsidies from the European Union, Ekomax and Biznesmax Plus loan guarantees, or cash loans for environmental purposes or the Green House mortgage loan.
