(PRESS RELEASE) LUXEMBOURG, 11-Dec-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved a €50 million loan to the Zumtobel Group, bolstering the Austrian lighting company’s research and development efforts. This funding will underpin the development of innovative and energy-efficient lighting solutions over the next three financial years, with the R&D program budgeted at €191 million. The initiative focuses on advancing intelligent components for indoor and outdoor lighting systems, contributing to the creation of smart buildings and cities.

The projects, centered around energy efficiency and connectivity, align with the EU’s sustainability and digitalization objectives. With its headquarters in Dornbirn, Austria, the Zumtobel Group has maintained a strong partnership with the EIB since 2018. This collaboration has not only enhanced the company’s innovation capabilities but also strengthened its financial foundation for sustainable growth.

Background information

The ElB is the long-term lending institution of the European Union, owned by the Member States. It finances investments that contribute to EU policy objectives.
