EDF Completes Full Acquisition of Pod Point to Accelerate UK EV Charging Rollout

(IN BRIEF) EDF Energy Customers Ltd has acquired the remaining 47% of Pod Point, making the EV charger company a wholly owned, private subsidiary. The deal, finalised on 4 August 2025, supports EDF’s push to enhance UK energy security and accelerate electrification. Pod Point will continue expanding its charging solutions—such as the cost-saving Pod Drive subscription—while tapping into EDF’s zero-carbon generation and tariff expertise. CEO Melanie Lane and EDF’s Philippe Commaret emphasize that this full integration enables faster innovation and broader deployment of EV infrastructure across Britain.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 6-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — EDF Energy Customers Ltd, the UK arm of EDF, has completed its purchase of the remaining shares in Pod Point Group Holdings PLC, taking full ownership of the London-based EV charging provider. Having already held a 53% stake, EDF’s acquisition culminated on 4 August 2025, when Pod Point was officially delisted from the London Stock Exchange.

This full integration underlines EDF’s strategy to bolster Britain’s energy resilience by fast-tracking electrification and delivering cost-effective, low-carbon solutions for its customers. As part of EDF, Pod Point will continue partnering with businesses and households to expand charging infrastructure and grid-friendly charging services.

“Becoming part of the EDF family unlocks new possibilities for Pod Point,” said Melanie Lane, CEO of Pod Point. “We’ll build on our close collaboration with EDF and our wider partner network to offer comprehensive charging solutions—ensuring drivers, homes, and fleets are seamlessly supported while reinforcing Britain’s electricity system.”

Philippe Commaret, Managing Director of Customers at EDF UK, added: “Pod Point has been instrumental in advancing EV charging in the UK. As an EDF subsidiary, it’s ideally placed to thrive in a dynamic market and accelerate the rollout of innovative offers.”

One such innovation is Pod Drive, a subscription model that reduces the upfront cost of a Solo 3S home charger by over £1,000, delivers cashback on up to 7,500 ‘smart-charged’ miles annually, and guarantees a 48-hour service response. Under EDF ownership, Pod Point will scale Pod Drive and other offerings to reach more EV drivers.

EDF itself is a leading supplier of EV tariffs. Its Go Electric plan saves drivers an average of £316 per year versus standard rates, with an optional smart-charging add-on yielding an additional £239 in annual savings—all backed by zero-carbon electricity generated by EDF’s UK nuclear and renewable fleet.

About EDF

EDF is helping Britain achieve Net Zero by leading the transition to a cleaner, low emission, electric future and tackling climate change. It is the UK’s largest producer of zero carbon electricity and supplies millions of customers with electricity and gas.

It generates low carbon electricity from five nuclear power stations and more than thirty onshore wind farms and two offshore wind farms. Since 2009, EDF has invested almost £8 billion in the nuclear fleet to improve reliability and extend station lifetimes. The five generating stations currently supply about 14% of the UK’s electricity demand.

EDF is leading the UK’s nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C. We also continue to support a replica plant at Sizewell C in Suffolk, which is now majority owned by the UK government. Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C will provide low carbon electricity to meet 14% of UK demand and power around 12 million homes.

EDF is one of the UK’s largest investors in renewables, with more than 1.5GW of renewable generation in operation and over 14GW in construction, planning and development across a range of technologies including onshore and offshore wind, solar and battery storage. We are constructing our largest offshore wind farm in Britain – the 450 MW Neart na Gaoithe project in Scotland.

EDF is helping its customers, both in business and at home, take their first steps to sustainably powering their lives, whether it is buying an electric car, generating and storing electricity, selling energy back to the grid or installing solar panels or a heat pump. EDF is one of the largest suppliers to British business and a leading supplier of innovative energy solutions that are helping businesses become more energy independent. In addition, the company’s energy services business, Dalkia, is one of the largest technical service providers in the UK and Ireland.

EDF is part of EDF Group, the world’s biggest electricity generator. In the UK, the company employs around 14,000 people at locations across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
