  • Contract value of about 140 million €

Stuttgart, Germany, 31-10-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — Züblin A/S, a Danish subsidiary of Ed. Züblin AG, Stuttgart, was awarded the contract to build the “Bryghus”, a six-storey multi-use building on the site of a former brewery at the Copenhagen waterfront. The general contractor agreement with a contract value of about 140 million € has been signed. Client is the Danish project development company Realdania  Byg A/S. Following the realisation of various different infrastructure buildings, this is the first building construction contract of such a magnitude for the STRABAG Group in Denmark.

The design, by renowned Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and his Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), calls for a combined residential, office and commercial building with public recreational areas, playground facilities, restaurants and cafés to be built by the autumn of 2017 along the busy waterfront road in the city centre. The Danish Centre for Architecture will also find a new home in the architecturally exciting building.

“We are pleased to be able to realise another Rem Koolhaas project so shortly after the spectacular ‘De Rotterdam’ project at the Port of Rotterdam. Time and again, the realisation of such a striking building in such a prominent location fills us, and our engineers, with pride,” says Thomas Birtel, CEO of STRABAG SE.

Züblin was chosen as general contractor not least because of its manifold experience in the management of logistically complex inner city construction projects as well as ground engineering and in-situ construction. “We are very happy about the conclusion of this contract and that, in Züblin, we have found a partner that not only possesses the necessary specialist expertise but also has many years of experience on the Danish market,” says Peter Fangel Poulsen, project direction at Realdania Byg. The aspects of sustainability, value engineering, 5D planning and building information modelling also played an important role for the client. The Bryghus project will be carried out in a form of collaboration of all involved parties that is unusual for the Danish market, with a special focus on efficient planning and production processes, improved overall project economy and top quality realisation.
