ECE announces third groundbreaking for Hermes Germany logistics center this year

Hamburg / Ketzin, 14-Dec-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — ECE is developing a further state-of-the-art logistics center for the logistics service provider Hermes Germany in Ketzin/Havel in the Berlin metropolitan area. Today, Bernd Lück, Mayor of Ketzin, Thomas Horst, CEO Sales Hermes Germany, and ECE Managing Director Dr. Andreas Mattner symbolically broke ground on the future location of the property in the industrial park of Etzin. This is already ECE’s third groundbreaking for a Hermes logistics center this year.

The distribution center with the latest high-performance sorting systems will comprise a logistics space of 10,000 m² and offices, technical facilities, and social areas in a second, adjacent building totaling 2,900 m². Completion is scheduled for fall 2017. The total investment volume amounts to approximately 53 million euros. The project will create about 250 jobs. From the initial planning and the acquisition of the site to the turnkey handover, the entire project will be managed by ECE, headquartered in Hamburg. The property is intended to meet the requirements of the gold certificate of the German Sustainable Building Council. In order to comply with sustainability standards, the latest heating technology, an efficient dock door management system, and a very effective building insulation material will be used.

Once the logistics center is operational, more than 200,000 packages will be processed every day that arrive or leave through the 115 dock doors of the building. The logistics center is located very conveniently: only 25 kilometers from Berlin’s city borders and approximately ten kilometers away from freeway A10.

“We are very pleased to kick off the construction of another logistics project for our long-standing partner Hermes Germany,” said Dr. Andreas Mattner, Managing Director Office, Traffic, Industries at ECE. “Once again, we will develop a logistics property which will meet the requirements of our customer in terms of profitability, technology, flexibility, and sustainability, and therefore, it is fit for the future.”

Several logistics centers for Hermes have already been developed by ECE or are still under construction: These include two similar logistics centers for Hermes Germany in Bad Rappenau near Heilbronn and an under-construction property in Mainz-Hechtsheim. Another logistics center in the Westphalian city of Löhne, which ECE had developed and constructed for Hermes Fulfilment and Hermes Einrichtungs Service, was opened in June. Moreover, ECE also constructed the Hermes Distribution-HUB in Friedewald (Hesse) and the Hermes North-HUB in the Hannover district of Langenhagen.
