EBU to demonstrate techniques that address the requirements of modern broadcasters at this year’s IBC show

Le Grand-Saconnex, Switzerland, 05-Sep-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — At this year’s IBC show, the EBU stand (10.F20) will focus on demonstrating techniques that address the requirements of modern broadcasters – developed by the broadcast community itself. With more complex and more fragmented media production and distribution environments, broadcasters increasingly need innovative solutions specifically adapted their needs.

  • As UHDTV moves towards the mainstream, applying sensible techniques to fit into today’s production workflows is important. We’ll show that it can be done. We are also pleased to host the Ultra HD Forum, displaying the latest implementations of their UHD recommendations.
  • High quality, flexible audio will form a key part of most future media propositions, including UHDTV. The EU-funded Orpheus Project will show its end-to-end approach to object-based audio production.
  • A cornerstone of flexible media production architectures, the FIMS (Framework for Interoperable Media Services) initiative will show a workflow using automatic metadata extraction along with an implementation of FIMS in the cloud, using semantic data. FIMS is a joint initiative involving the EBU, AWMA and others.
  • The Eurovision Media Services division will also showcase their services on the EBU stand, including Eurovision Flex – a self-managed digital transmission tool that enables broadcasters to deliver live content via a network layer composed of internet, fibre and satellite.
  • Reflecting the increasing importance of OTT services, visitors can see the EBU Flow pilot in action. It brings the benefits and reliability of multi-CDN switching to all broadcasters, with the added benefit of improvements in the efficiency of the CDN services.
  • The stand will also showcase the recommendation and single sign-on systems that have already been developed and deployed by several Members working with the EBU’s PEACH project (Personalization for EACH).
  • And finally, we will welcome a demonstration of Swedish Radio’s award-winning low-cost NXG remote radio production tools. With much attention to detail, and incorporating feedback from the users themselves, these impressive tools improve the efficiency, ease and quality of radio production, both in and outside of the studio.
