(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 10-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has provided a €25 million loan to BNP Paribas Finansal Kiralama in Türkiye, aimed at facilitating gender-responsive green investments. The loan, part of the EBRD’s Türkiye Green Economy Financing Facility II, will support sub-borrowers involved in projects focused on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate resilience.

This initiative is a significant contribution to Türkiye’s climate goals, including its target to reach net-zero emissions by 2053. The EBRD’s programme is designed to promote the deployment of green finance, with a particular focus on integrating leasing companies into this sector. By offering accessible financial solutions, leasing companies play a crucial role in enabling small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to invest in renewable energy, energy-efficient technologies, and low-carbon machinery.

An important feature of this project is its gender-responsive component. BNP Paribas Finansal Kiralama is committed to addressing the gender disparities in accessing climate finance, acknowledging that women in Türkiye face more barriers than men in obtaining funding for green technologies.

Oksana Yavorskaya, Deputy Head of the EBRD Türkiye office, expressed satisfaction with the progress of Turkish leasing companies in expanding green finance options: “We are excited about the strong commitment shown by Turkish leasing companies to find innovative ways to increase green financing access. Our collaboration with BNP Paribas Finansal Kiralama will continue this positive trend, helping businesses that rely on leasing to access the financial tools they need.”

Sibel Alyar, General Manager of BNP Paribas Finansal Kiralama, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership: “As a part of BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions, we are using our strong position in equipment finance to support Türkiye’s sustainable growth. This financing aligns with BNP Paribas Group’s sustainability goals, and we are proud to use it to provide impactful green financing solutions.”

The EBRD continues to be a key investor in Türkiye, having committed over €21 billion through 465 projects and trade finance initiatives since 2009, most of which have been directed toward the private sector.
