EBN: GESR launches innovation for packaging challenge in Egypt

BRUSSELS, 18-Oct-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — GESR, EU|BIC Misr El Kheir Foundation’s programme, is  launching its innovation for packaging challenge that aims to spread the social entrepreneurship culture through encouraging youth entering the packaging industry and turning their promising ideas into reality.

The challenge has two tracks:

  1.  First is innovation in creating/ designing a durable and light weight packing box made of recyclable, environmental friendly materials with specific quality standards as well as considering the ergonomic perspective.
  2. The second track will be innovation in packaging machinery by which they will be working on building low cost reliable packaging machinery that is suitable for medium or small enterprises.

Participants will be introduced to entrepreneurship and innovation principles through workshops. Additionally, a prototyping fund will be provided as well to help participants of both tracks turn their innovative ideas into to functional prototypes.

ABOUT GESR
GESR is formed of a cluster of activities and partners joined together by the vision of empowering the people at the bottom of the economic pyramid (BOP) and solving Egypt’s societal challenges through social innovation and entrepreneurship. It is a part of social innovation cluster project funded by EU.  GESR operates through its 3 main components: the Incubator, the Innovation Lab and the Impact Investing Network.

Its main activities revolve around providing incubation services to startups , as well as organising  social innovation challenges with the aim to promote social innovation and to support innovators and entrepreneurs through various competitions.
