East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Project Moves Forward With Skanska Joint Venture

(IN BRIEF) Skanska, in a joint venture with Stacy Witbeck, has signed a contract with LA Metro for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project in Van Nuys, California, with Skanska’s share valued at USD 957 million, or approximately SEK 8.9 billion, out of a total contract value of USD 1.9 billion. The project includes construction of a 10.8-kilometre at-grade light rail line along Van Nuys Boulevard, a 10.5-hectare rail and maintenance facility, and 11 new stations with shade structures and utility improvements. The new line will expand Metro’s transit system, connect high-density neighbourhoods to the broader Los Angeles County rail network, and link with the existing G-Line bus route. Work has begun, with completion expected in December 2031, and Skanska will record its share in US order bookings for the third quarter of 2026.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 14-Aug-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Skanska, in a joint venture with Stacy Witbeck, has signed a contract with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, known as LA Metro, for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project in Van Nuys, California, USA.

Skanska’s share of the contract is valued at USD 957 million, equivalent to approximately SEK 8.9 billion.

The full contract value is USD 1.9 billion.

Skanska will include its share of the contract in its US order bookings for the third quarter of 2026.

The project involves the construction of a 10.8-kilometre, or 6.7-mile, at-grade light rail line along Van Nuys Boulevard.

The scope also includes a 10.5-hectare, or 26-acre, rail and maintenance facility.

In addition, the project covers the development of 11 new stations, including shade structures and utility improvements.

The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project will expand Metro’s transit system and connect high-density neighbourhoods to the wider Los Angeles County rail network.

The new light rail line will operate along the heavily trafficked Van Nuys Boulevard corridor.

It will also connect to Metro’s existing G-Line bus route, providing improved public transportation options for communities that have previously had limited access to rail-based transit.

Work on the project has already begun.

The project is expected to be completed in December 2031.

Through the contract, Skanska and Stacy Witbeck will support the development of a major public transportation corridor intended to strengthen regional mobility and improve transit access in the San Fernando Valley.
