E.ON and MAN Truck & Bus Partner to Establish Europe’s Largest Public Charging Network for Electric Trucks

E.ON and MAN Truck & Bus Partner to Establish Europe’s Largest Public Charging Network for Electric Trucks

(IN BRIEF) E.ON and MAN Truck & Bus are collaborating to create a vast public charging network for electric commercial vehicles across Europe, featuring approximately 400 charging points at 170 locations. With 125 sites planned in Germany alone, this initiative will significantly enhance the charging infrastructure for electric trucks, promoting sustainable logistics and green supply chains. The first site is set to open this year, with 80 sites expected by the end of 2025. This partnership supports Europe’s ambitious emission reduction targets and highlights the critical role of electric mobility in achieving a green, carbon-neutral future.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, 12-Jul-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — E.ON and MAN Truck & Bus are making significant strides in expanding the charging infrastructure for commercial electric vehicles across Europe. Their new cooperation will see the establishment of approximately 170 locations with around 400 public charging points for electric trucks, with 125 sites planned in Germany alone. This initiative will create the largest public charging network for heavy commercial vehicles in Germany to date, with the first site set to open this year and around 80 sites expected by the end of 2025. These charging stations will be strategically placed along the MAN service network and will accommodate commercial vehicles from all manufacturers.

Leonhard Birnbaum, CEO of E.ON, emphasized that electric mobility is crucial to achieving Europe’s goal of reducing emissions from heavy commercial vehicles by 90% by 2040. The partnership with MAN is a decisive step toward sustainable logistics and green supply chains. Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus, noted the urgent need for around 50,000 charging points for heavy commercial vehicles in Europe by 2030 and highlighted the role of policymakers in supporting this expansion.

The new charging sites will be located in industrial areas and near motorways, featuring drive-through facilities to facilitate easy access for trucks and buses. Each site will initially be equipped with 400-kilowatt charging stations, allowing an electric truck to recharge for a range of up to 300 kilometers in about 45 minutes. Future upgrades will include the MCS megawatt charging system.

Sukhjinder Singh, CEO of E.ON Drive Infrastructure, stated that the partnership with MAN sets a new standard for electromobility in the commercial vehicle sector. Friedrich Baumann of MAN Truck & Bus SE expressed that the success of their new electric truck, which is set for series production, will depend on the availability of a robust charging infrastructure.

This collaboration supports Germany and the EU’s ambitious decarbonization targets, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions from heavy goods traffic by 55% by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality by 2045. E.ON and MAN’s investment in electric mobility infrastructure is a critical step towards these goals, ensuring that sustainable and efficient logistics become a reality.
