Dutch food retailer DEEN Supermarkten to install innovative cash management solution from Wincor Nixdorf and Nokas

The Dutch food retailer will initially install the innovative cash management solution from Wincor Nixdorf and Nokas in 15 stores

Paderborn, Germany, 9-1-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — DEEN Supermarkten B.V. , a food retailer that operates 65 supermarkets in the Netherlands, is opting for automated cash handling in the cash office. Employees are thus relieved of time-consuming work and their security is appreciably increased since their contact with cash in the cash office is reduced to an absolute minimum.

Wincor Nixdorf and Nokas will significantly optimize the cash management processes in five DEEN stores this year and a further ten next year.

Both companies teamed up in the Cash Cycle Management service to monitor and manage the entire cash process end-to-end. The solutions provided include hardware and software as well as services ranging from maintenance to Cash Order Management and CiT logistics.

The solution is based on the CINEO C6020 note recycling systems and CINEO C1020 coin recycling systems in the stores’ back office. The systems will be controlled by the software solution TPCash from Wincor Nixdorf. Their recycling function means that notes and coins that are paid in can be returned directly to the cash cycle at stores. This means that the head cashier can automatically replenish the change drawers from the cash supply in the systems in the cash office and return them to the systems in the evening without any manual counting being required.

As part of its Managed Services, Wincor Nixdorf monitors the systems at all times to ensure their maximum availability. Cash levels and transaction information are forwarded securely and reliably by Wincor Nixdorf to Nokas. Nokas is liable for the cash and credits the takings (turnover) the next day at DEEN’s bank to quickly increase the retailer’s liquidity. Crediting can thus take place independently of cash removal and saves costs for cash handling and transport. Cash orders or cash flow to and from the store is managed exactly as required per individual store and cash levels remain transparent at all times.

The decision in favor of the solution from Wincor Nixdorf and Nokas was preceded by intensive testing in a representative DEEN pilot store, where the cash management solution achieved optimal results and the employees` security could be increased. “Wincor Nixdorf respected our greatest wish: increased safety for our employees. They provided us a solution for our personnel to feel safe, not just cash recycling systems for the back office”, said Martina Balm, Manager Cash Office Processes & Data Management from DEEN. The risk of robbery is reduced through the takings being securely stored in the cash office and needing to be transported less often. In total the time spent each week on manual cash handling at the cash office of the test store could thus be reduced by around 30 hours since, among other things, the takings no longer need to be counted according to the double-checking principle.

Overall, analysis of the test at the DEEN pilot store revealed that the Back Office Automation solution reduces total cash costs by 17 percent and leads to greater security for the employees – a convincing argument for rollout of the solution to initially 15 DEEN stores, a process that is expected to be completed in mid-2014. Dennis van Tol, Account Manager at Wincor Nixdorf Benelux believes the decision by DEEN Supermarkten in favor of cash management technology also sends a signal to other medium-sized food retailers. “The example of DEEN shows that not only large supermarkets, but also smaller stores with comparatively lower volumes of cash can generate very significant cash savings by implementing the solution,” sums up Albert Clement, Engagement Manager at Wincor Nixdorf Benelux.
