(PRESS RELEASE) HEDEHUSENE, 13-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a major industry development, DSV has entered into an agreement to acquire Schenker, the logistics arm of Deutsche Bahn, for €14.3 billion. The acquisition, one of the largest in the logistics sector, will significantly bolster DSV’s global presence, expanding its reach across more than 90 countries and integrating a combined workforce of approximately 147,000 employees. The merged entity is expected to generate pro forma revenues of €39.3 billion, based on 2023 financials.

This strategic acquisition positions DSV as a stronger player in the highly competitive logistics industry, with enhanced capabilities in its Air & Sea, Road, and Solutions divisions. The move is expected to boost DSV’s platform for growth and innovation, particularly in the areas of sustainable and digital logistics solutions.

Germany will play a central role in the future organization, with key functions remaining in the country, including Schenker’s existing base in Essen. DSV plans to invest €1 billion in Germany over the next five years, driving long-term growth, job creation, and modernizing workplace environments.

DSV’s CEO, Jens H. Lund, hailed the acquisition as a transformative event for the company, citing the added expertise and expanded network as key factors in elevating DSV’s competitiveness and service offerings. Jochen Thewes, CEO of Schenker, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the bright future for both companies as they join forces to become a global leader in the transport and logistics industry.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, which are expected by mid-2025, after which the integration of operations between DSV and Schenker will begin. Until the deal is finalized, both companies will continue to operate independently.
