Dr. Norbert Menke succeeds Holger Hanson

LEIPZIG, 21-Jun-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — At today’s (June 16, 2016) meeting of the Supervisory Board of VNG – Verbundnetz Gas Aktiengesellschaft (VNG AG), Dr. Norbert Menke, Speaker of the Management Board of Leipziger Stadtholding, was elected as First Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

Menke joined the VNG AG Supervisory Board on June 2, 2016. He succeeds Holger Hanson, Managing Director of Neubrandenburger Stadtwerke GmbH. Hanson stepped down from the Supervisory Board, and therefore from his position as Vice-Chairman, on June 2, 2016. Peter Leisebein, Chairman of the Works Council of VNG AG, remains Second Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board of VNG AG.

Curriculum Vitae of Dr. Norbert Menke:
Dr. Norbert Menke has been Speaker of the Management Board of Leipziger Stadtholding since April 2014. The municipal holding company coordinates the activities of Leipziger Stadtwerke, Leipziger Wasserwerke and Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (the municipal utility, water supplier and local transport company) under the umbrella of the Leipziger Gruppe. Menke, born on August 30, 1962, studied electrical engineering at Paderborn University. After obtaining his doctorate in 1995, he managed the product management department of a leading service provider for ancillary expenses invoicing (Raab-Karcher group). At the same time, he studied at Bradford University, obtaining an MBA in finance and accounting in 1998. The same year he took up a position with ENSO AG in Eastern Saxony as head of department and statutory officer responsible for energy economics, sales and energy trading. At the beginning of 2006, Menke joined Würzburger Versorgungs- und Verkehrs-GmbH, where he was the Managing Director responsible for energy, water and environmental services. Within the WVV group, he held various functions including Management Board Member of Würzburger Stadtwerke AG (municipal utility), Straßenbahn GmbH (public transport company) and Trinkwasserversorgung GmbH (water supply company). During this time, the district heat and power systems were refurbished and municipal power generation was changed over from coal to natural gas firing. Menke has gained considerable experience in the field of renewable energies since 2011. He has also been Honorary Professor of Energy Economics at Chemnitz University of Technology for many years.
