DNV and MIRDC Join Forces to Drive Renewable Energy Innovation in Taiwan

(IN BRIEF) DNV and Taiwan’s Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on advancing renewable energy technologies in Taiwan. The partnership will focus on floating solar and wind technologies, energy storage, and hydrogen solutions to support Taiwan’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This collaboration aligns with Taiwan’s broader efforts to adopt low-carbon energy sources and strengthen its energy supply while reducing its carbon footprint.

(PRESS RELEASE) BÆRUM, 22-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — DNV has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC), a non-profit foundation dedicated to the development and enhancement of Taiwan’s metals and related industries. The MoU, formalized at a ceremony on October 18, 2024, at DNV’s Technology Centre in Singapore, marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration aimed at advancing renewable energy technologies in Taiwan. The agreement was signed by Yung-Hsiang Lai, CEO of MIRDC, and Dr. Matthew Rowe, Director of Power Grids, APAC, Energy Systems at DNV.

This three-year partnership will focus on a variety of initiatives, including floating solar and wind technologies, energy storage solutions, and hydrogen technology. The collaboration aligns with Taiwan’s commitment to achieving its net-zero 2050 goals, with a strong emphasis on decarbonizing energy systems through innovative renewable technologies. One of the key solutions the partnership will explore is renewable hydrogen, which has significant potential for stabilizing the grid and decarbonizing various sectors, including industry and transportation.

Taiwan has already made substantial progress in promoting low-carbon energy sources such as hydrogen and ammonia. Enhancing energy storage systems is seen as critical to maintaining a resilient and reliable power supply as renewable energy adoption increases. By investing in these technologies, Taiwan aims to stabilize its energy supply, foster a green economy, and reduce its carbon footprint, all in line with its ambitious climate goals.

MIRDC’s Chairman, Ren-Yi Lin, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “Partnering with DNV, a trusted leader in the energy transition space, will create synergies that help drive the growth of renewable energy technologies in Taiwan. We are excited to combine our expertise to promote sustainability and advance innovative solutions that align with global energy goals.”

Brice Le Gallo, Vice President and Regional Director APAC, Energy Systems at DNV, added, “We are proud to formalize this strategic partnership with MIRDC, which will contribute to the advancement of renewable energy technology in Taiwan. This collaboration underscores DNV’s commitment to steering the transition toward a low-carbon future and achieving net-zero by 2050.”

DNV, with its extensive experience in supporting carbon reduction strategies in Taiwan, will play a key role in designing and implementing renewable energy solutions. The company has been actively involved in the integration of technologies like hydrogen, ammonia, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) to help Taiwan meet its decarbonization targets.
